A Cumberland County woman in the process of moving out of the residence she and her sister shared with her father was shot to death Monday morning and investigators have charged the dad with the shooting.

Rebecca Diagle, 41, of Hwy. 70 E, died at the scene shortly after sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel arrived on the scene despite frantic efforts to save her life.

Charged with first-degree murder is the victim's father, Wayne Lawson Miller, 67, 6677 Hwy. 70 E. He is being held without bond until a hearing in General Sessions Court scheduled for Thursday.

The shooting took place at the Miller residence, located just east of the KOA Kampground on Hwy. 70 E.

"The victim and her sister, Anita Miller, were living with their father," Investigator Casey Cox said. "They got into an argument about something the night before the the sisters left and spent the night elsewhere.

"The next morning the sisters returned to the Miller residence to retrieve their belongings when Diagle was hit by a shotgun blast fired through a side door."

Anita Miller, who was standing beside her sister, was not injured, Cox said. It was Anita Miller who called E-911 and reported the shooting.

Wayne Miller was taken into custody at the scene and was taken to the Justice Center where he was interviewed by sheriff's investigators and later charged.

am trying to get information on this situation. actually the family grew up in the strawberry plains area. i went to school with becky, the lady that was killed. her father is my uncle by marriage, yes this is a tragedy but not a shocker. wayne retired from kub and graduted from carter high school, just east of knoxville. waynes father was a very abuses alcoholic to his family and the cycle obviously continued. its been several years since we have even herd from wayne but knew his alcoholism was extreme. so sad, didnt know becky was remarried and had a 4 year old. becky had 1 younger and two older sisters. if anyone knows the circumstances besides the obvious or whats on the news, please post. i hope that this topix is not as cruel as the one in morristown but due to the nature of the situation he has no friends here. however, there are family members and friend that are shocked and left with no information for closure. pleas tell us anything that my help.

I have known the miller family all of my life. It is true that Wayne drinks a lot of beer but I have never known him to intentionly try to harm his daughters. I went to school with Anita since the third grade. Not one time did she ever have any marks or bruises or horror stories from home. I would think if these girls were abused when they were in school they would have said something to their friends. I was a friend of Anita's and have worked with Becky about ten years ago. I like everyone else in the East Tennesse community where they are orginally from am still in shock.

for what it matters i was saying that waynes father was abusive to him. i did say the cycle has contiued but was only referring to the tragic ending of beckys life. in saying that, was more concerned with what or why it happened. there is no way to give back what has been taken from us and we will always be devistated to the effects that these actions leave us with. putting ourselves out of the way, just trying to find out or get clarity to why things happened, this may be the only closer some people may get. there will a higher power that handles both souls here but we need to do the best we can to support the rest of the famliy. so if anyone does have info please be as nonjudgemental and eplaine what we up here have no way of getting, as this may be all we ever get.

Anyway, back in 2002 Becky married Damon Daigle...He was a riverboat captain. She met him on the Riverboat in Knoxville, where her older sister Anita bar tended in the summers. Anita was a school teacher in Morristown at the time. Anyway, Becky and Damon moved to Crossville, and actually lived or purchased the property where she was killed. They married, and divorced and Wayne moved from Strawplains to that house. A bit before that, Anita who was married..had a breakdown, suicide attempts, and finally attempted to kill her estranged husband and a kid they had adopted in foster care. Her life spiraled tragically with her shooting herself in 2003 or 2004. So, her mother, her Becky, Husband etc..moved to Crossville. Anita did not die, but has a lot of limitations due to the self inflicted gunshot. Anyway, the whole situation with Wayne (unstable) Anita (unstable) Becky (challenged, divorce, etc) and all somewhat estranged from the mother, was already an ingredient for disaster. Why Wayne went haywire over his daughters demanding there things to move out? Who knows. But rumor has it that the situation was building and was in pretty bad conflict at that point!
It's a tragedy that probably could have been avoided, but was encompassed in a lot of bad, and sadly a lot of personal and mental issues. Hope that helps...if such a thing can help in a sad situation such as this!...It is truly a life of tragedies.

thank you so much for the kind offering of help. yes this family has had tragic situations from the word go. i do know about the attempted suicides and much more, so i believe you know what was going on. thanks for not putting a bad spin on a horrible situation, thats kind. as i stated wayne was my uncle by marriage and was the go to guy for us high schoolers to learn about things out parents didnt want us to know, in the 80s. maybe good or bad he always ment well to us and we all were family even when we were not realatives. thanks so much for the info you have shared for some of us its the only we have. you state he was trying to get the girls out of his house, i believe? so were they living with him or was he living with them? its not a huge issue but was just woundering? wayne and his girls moved in and out of one house several times up here, the one they grew up in. seems to have been doing the same things down there with trying to all live together. in wish not leave becky or her sisters out when i say wayne was my uncle, i just didnt know the girls that well. it seems that most of the time the ones who get hurt in life is the ones we claim to love the most. the entire family has lost to much in life and has many things to deal with for a long time, hopefully they find some help. again thanks for the words of kindness and not how most try to take issues to, i do agree he should have no mercy but im not his judge of any kind. there is absolutely no excuse or reason this father should have taken his daughters life!

It is my understanding that the house started as Becky and Damons, then went to Wayne after Becky and Damon went apart. But you are correct...Anita's mother Linda, divorced Wayne, lived with Anita and her husband....Becky and her children, Samantha and Jesse, lived with Anita and her husband, as well as Lisa, and Carol, at one time or another. So...hope that helps.
