Depends on whether you want a baby sitter or a teacher. If your child is well behaved and going to school to LEARN,,You will like her. most of the complains today are from parents that have never taught their children to behave in school, children that hate to obey the teachers usually are the one running home crying to mommy about that bad old school teacher. I suppose if we named every teacher in cumb co schools in Topix,,we would read BAD stuff about everyone of them LOL

If this is the same Brenda Bradley Lyon that taught at Homestead...she is a poor excuse for a teacher. She looks down on everyone, has a poor personality and I'm not so sure that she even likes kids!!

It doesn't matter how well behaved your child is she treats all of them the same if you don't believe that go to some of the conferences with the teachers .she tries to intimidate the children and parent also all the parents had same complaints she is awful and holds them back on making their AR goals and is conveniently sick at times for conferences

Thanks for the feedback. I have heard a lot of bad things about her. Especially from my child ! She don't need to be a teacher ! Why don't the school system do something about her ?

I'm speaking from personal experience about Mrs. Bradley-Lyons -- she was my 8th grade teacher years ago...

Let me say that I've had worse teachers, but she certainly isn't the nicest or most considerate personality that ever graced the Homestead halls. I recall that she was extremely vain and pretentious -- she was known for treating the kids who did not wear Guess, Nike, etc., like total crap -- I know because I was one of those kids who didn't wear name brand stuff. I mean, if you're going to be a teacher, you should do it for the love of teaching and not simply because it's an easy degree to earn. I mean, that's quite obvious with teachers like her running our classrooms.

In summary, I think she's one of the worse teachers I ever had. She showed me absolutely no respect until I finally had enough of her crap one day and told her what I thought... After that day her attitude toward me changed and she pretended to be nice, but I knew better -- that's just how she operates...a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I have also heard very bad things about Ms. lyons. My child is in her class now and he said she dosen't like him and is mean to him. I was in the mall around christmas and ran into another parent and student which is one of his classmates and the little girl told me that ms. lyons was mean to my son.

My son is in her class and he says she doesn't like him,and she is mean to him also. She needs to realize they are just kids and they have feelings too.

With so many bad comments on one teacher from a school you would think they would do something! The only good comments you know are from the people in the front office none are from the parents of the kids and they are all the same gripes. She is a very pretensious women and whenever you try to talk to her you can pick that up right away. She just stares at you and pats her foot. They seem to be so concerned about the ar goals but they can never get the book report in,tested and another book signed off. Then if they are behind they pull them out of class to call home which is a waste of their time that they could have been reading.Only some kids can test on three books on same day and do their book reports at home which you can look at and tell mom or dad one has had alot of input.I believe all parents should take these concerns to school board or somewhere and make more people aware of this site so they can get on it and read it and voice their own opinions. The school website for Mrs.Lyons is also a joke you can not send her an e-mail or Kari Rockwell,or Mrs.Thompson.Ther is a couple of teachers that you can get ahold of and that is Mr.Lewis the 8th grade math teacher and Mrs.Wilson as far as I am concerned she is the only 5th grade teacher that even cares. They need to go in that school and clean house.Leave Mrs.Sherrill,Mrs.Wilson,Mrs.Wa rner(walker),Mr.lewis,Mr.Novak and Coach Shirley. The rest are dead beats and they need to use some bleach when they clean and maybe all these kids wouldn't stay sick all the time.

Make your complaints formal, put it in writting and send it to the board of education . If enough people do this , then maybe the school system would do somethng about it.

As most have stated in the above comments- Mrs. Lyons is not a good teacher. She intimidates the children and sets their goals so high they hate reading after her class.. She is a poor excuse for an educator. My daughter had her and now four years later she hates to read.. Thank you Mrs. Lyons for breaking her down. But there is a saying "what goes around comes around". It will make a cirle back. Then enjoy.

Mrs.Lyon is a great teacher she never singled anyone out and she was never vain. The kids she disiplined deserved it. Just because you didnt wear nike or gap doesnt mean that she treated you different thats sad you would have to go to that as an excuse. If you were a trouble maker you were dislipned,i thought thats what teachers were supposed to do. She was one of my favorite teachers and treated me very good she was nice. O and she was a great teacher when i started her class i was not good and reading or writing by the end of the year she spent alot of time with me she had taught me so much. if it werent for her i would have just been passed on to another grade like past teachers had done.

LET me guess your her granddaughter or someone related to her or the principle, vice principle!I have a daughter also and she loves to read if we go to the Public library, they say they have 5 minutes to get a book then it has to be signed off thebook report, the test.My experience with Mrs.Lyons is she sucks. If it takes cleaning the whole office out up there at Brown then I think that is what needs to be done the next pto all of us parents need to get together and try to petition them out some of them will already be leaving they have made sure everyone knew it two

No i'm not her daughther granddaughter or even related to her in anyway, i dont work with her and never have. like i said before i was a student of hers. she has been a teacher for a very long time so she must be doing something right. but i am not here to agrue with anyone i just thought that it was sad what you people were saying about such a great woman and teacher. i hope she is still around when my kid goes to school i would love for my child to be in her class. but i think instead of complaining to a bunch of people that cant do anything about it,its a good idea to say something at the next pto meeting. good luck.

Mrs. Lyon was my 8th grade teacher years ago she never singled anyone out i think you parents need to teach your children to behave in school. your not with them to know how they act. i have children of my own an would love for her to be their teacher. these kids jus simply dont want to go to school an try to get any teacher that jumps on them fired thinking "well ill show her not to mess with me"
