CROSSVILLE — The North Carolina man charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Summer Nicole Nelms, 35, of Knoxville, whose nude body was discovered in an empty lot behind a Crab Orchard gas station in October, has hung himself.

Cumberland County corrections officers discovered the lifeless body of Allen Stacy Rogers, 32, of Spruce Hill, NC, shortly before noon Saturday. Despite efforts to revive him, Rogers, who showed no signs of life at the jail, was pronounced dead at Cumberland Medical Center, according to Chief Investigator Casey Cox.

The Chronicle has learned that earlier that morning Rogers was in a general area with other inmates during the hours designated for visitors for inmates, but after learning he did not have any visitors, returned to his cell.

It is not known if investigators found a note.

Rogers was arrested within 72 hours after the property owner of the lot behind the Crab Orchard BP discovered the body. The victim had suffered multiple blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office were involved in the investigation which led them to identify a North Carolina trucker as a suspect in the case.

State and local authorities teamed with North Carolina investigators to take Rogers into custody without incident.

Rogers was indicted the same week of the slaying and returned to Cumberland County where he has been jailed since. He had previously made court appearances and was appointed an attorney, but the case was continued.

I'm not saying it doesn't thrill me that the P.O.S. off'ed himself, but opening a new thread is beating a dead dog. There is already a thread here http://www.topix.com/forum/city/crossville-tn...
that goes from the start of the case.:)

i'm not saying that i dont feel the same way about a killer being dead, but think of the families involved. i'm sure his family is devastated and hurt even if he had murdered someone, i'm sure he was loved by someone too. i just feel for the families involved because if one day they google their names, there will be all this crap online to read and things like that really do hurt to hear from strangers... like the above poster said, let a dead dog lay. leave it alone... its over with now. Vengance is His, the Lord's.
