I live in Florida but am from Crossville and every time I go back for a visit I go to the tree house and am 42yrs old. The place is amazing, if you go bring a Sharpie and leave your mark. The things you read are part of the excitement!

Vandalism is not tolerated at the treehouse and they have people that live there now to make sure people do not do excatly what you just suggested.

If it was "All" in the trees, it would be a real treehouse. It has much sitting on the ground.

People have been writing little statements and poems and just their signatures all over that place for years. It is as much a part of the place as anything else. I've spent hours just reading those things.
As for "people live there now," yes they do. A bunch of homeless chicks that huddle in that old tee-pee.(oh and they even built a shed right beside it) That metal cone was a place to piss for years and isn't fit for a dog. I don't think those druggie chicks mind the smell though. There are also a large number of teens and tweens that hang-out there climbing all over and getting high in-spite of the "Critter & MJ" security force.
If you upstanding citizens want to discus the "Worlds Largest Tree House" why don't you talk about how it's a building codes disaster and a magnet for wannabee thugs. The "No Trespassing" signs are there to keep anyone who gets hurt from suing. Good try but the general publication (chan10, MJ's Facebook page, and others)as "a place for people to come and enjoy themselves" means Mr. Burgess needs about a million dollars worth of insurance or he needs to close his theme park down.
Just a bit of funny info: The reporter from chan10 ask Burgess how long it took to build. He replied that it took him 11 years so far...but he hadn't done anything to it in about 8 years. Can he not just say 3 years?
I'm not as down on the tree house as it may seem but this isn't the first one he's built. He threw a tantrum and burned the first one down about 24 years ago. I would hate for one of those kids to be stoned and curled up in a hiding place somewhere if/when he decides to do the same to this one.
