Coach Davis at Homestead

I had Coach Davis in the 8th grade. My mom, aunt and cousins all had Coach as well. Coach is very intelligent and knows what he is doing. He is healthy and thinks everyone else should be, too. With Coach students don't have a choice but to respect him and do things the way he wants them done. Coach will paddle you and not think twice about it. My family has known Coach on a personal level as well. He is a good man with good intentions. He won't put up with punks who think they can trash talk him or other students. He is very "old school" which is what all these little 6th - 8th grade "wise guys". Coach has nothing but good intentions. He loves sports and wants the kids to get out and be active. If a 78 year old man can get up every morning and run 10 miles surely some elementary school kids can run around and do sit ups in gym class. And yes, he does get up and run that much every morning, I live by him, I see him. He has a good heart and wants each student to be the best they can be. As long as children are respectful of Coach there will be zero problem. Coach has the right to teach until the day he dies. He has done it all his life and has done a great job at it. There is something to be said when TONS of kids come back to see Coach even years after high school or college. As for all you complaining people Coach doesn't play the blame game, if he sees you bothering someone it is YOUR fault, you are doing it regardless if it was done to you first, therefor, you will be punished for it. And Dawn, you just sound flat out absurd. In Homestead gym the doors are open and the front office is right there. Kids and staff would have seen that go on, if it ever did. Coach would NEVER "pull down pants and spank them". Understanding your child had autism... he didn't have any physical disabilities preventing him from doing them. If your son was too embarrassed to participate in gym class with the other students, understanding he has autism, he should have had the proper assistance from an aid, that's why they are there. Before I get the "you don't understand autism" rant believe me I do. I am a special education major, my mother has her masters in Childhood development, and my brother has autism. When children have autism it doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't have to participate. The more they participate, interact with others, and follow directions just like the other kids the better off they will be. Nobody would ever know my brother has autism. He has his quirky ways but he listens, obeys, plays football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. He interacts with peers and teachers. Including a child with autism is for the better. As for you saying Coach pulled his pants down and spanked him, well... you just sounds like an ignorant moron.

Great teacher, he just don't put up with bull. The people talking bad about him most likely had problem children or are making it up. His tests are hard and you have to study but that is a good thing.

My daughter was lucky enough to have Coach Davis. She had to work hard and earn her grades in his class. He has always been very nice and speaks to not only the kids, but the parents as well. I think you should find something to do other than trying to bash him on here. If you have had such an issue, move your kids to a different school because apparently he has not done anything to to deserve to lose his job, or have a nasty rumor started about him.

I don't appreciate being called ignorant, as a matter of fact I am very intelligent. And as I stated before if anyone would like to see the police report or any evidence I can provide that. I am not trying to be mean I am just providing information to someone who asked about coach Davis. I am sorry if I offended anyone. Also my son is a good student and is on the A and B honor roll every semester.

I would love to see the police report. We all know how a third grader will tell everything they see or hear. No other parent or teacher ever heard of it happening...

I had coach for 8th grade and the statements about him being hard is 100% true. He will test your physical and mental abilities with his test there not easy that is reason he had the lowest grades. He won't let you cheat and high school science was a breeze i wish i could of CLEP'D it. And i am one of those students who will be going back to visit after i get back from overseas.

Does this report have the follow up info where they checked it out on it? What about the complaint that has to be writen and turned into the school? Why did this not get taken before the school board? BOE meetings are pulic and this should have been taken there if it was true. Not saying it is or isnt, just asking wondering why you gave up if it was true and let them push it under the rug?

My husband and I were told by the detective that they presented all of the evidence to the district attorney named Randy York and he decided there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute. Even the detective said with all of the evidence they had he didn't understand it himself. He told us we had to go through the school board. So we had a meeting with Ms.VanWinkle and she said the best she could do was to change their school. We took our son to the er and even have pictures of the bruises and he even admitted to doing it. So I don't really know what to do it's been almost a year and they still let him teach that's what worries me. I don't know how to put the report on here but I do on lsn I will do that tomorrow then post the ad number so you all can see for yourselves that I am not lying.

Mrs. Vanwinkle is not the BOE. She is not the last place to go. The BOE is the top of the list and has the final say on everything. There are steps to take, but you should call your rep and then follow the steps to get it on the BOE aggenda for the board to see and talk about it but they most likely will not do anything unless you have a lawyer. You have to get the lawyer and file suit before the year is up or until the kid is 19.

checked lsn dawn and it still isn't there...seems to me to be a bunch of bull to try and mess with a good teacher. Such a shame that there are people in this commuity with nothing better to do with their time than run their mouths about people, claiming to have evidence. Seems to me that Coach could open one of those slander suits against this person :)

My 3 boys went to Homestead the beginning of last year. Neither of them had coach Davis as a regular classroom teacher only a gym teacher. My 11 year old has autism and coach Davis was trying to make him do sit-ups in gym class and my son was embarrassed and didn't want to do them and he started crying. Coach Davis jerked him up off the floor, pulled his pants down in front of the whole class and spanked him leaving bruises on him. My husband and i went to the sheriff's department and reported it. After their so-called investigation they told us they interviewed him and he admitted it even though my son was on the no paddle list. Then they proceed to tell us there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him and we would have to deal with the school board. So we went to Ms.Vanwinkle the only thing she did was let us enroll our children back at Martin as long as we drove them back and forth because we weren't zoned for Martin. Where is the justice? My children will never go to any school where coach Davis works.
In my opinion:
So your kids are back at martin? Good! That way the rest of the parents of homestead kids don't have to listen to your false accusations and other lies. Funny how after reading this trash talk of yours there has yet to be any proof posted. You should be ashamed of the idiotic things you have posted. Shame on you dawn. Glad to see that you won't disgracing the homestead area anymore.

I had him for science class over 25 years ago. He was awful then. Made fun of kids that weren't cool. laughed at kids that were poor or cried. How sad that this teacher is still teaching. :(

You know what I had coach 6 years ago and at first I did not like him but I realized he is only teaching and the longer I stayed in his class the more I liked him and believe me I am not one of these "cool" kids you speak of and I was poor, but not once did the man make fun of me we got along very well yes his class is hard, but it should be so that someone has to work for their grade and someone not just give it to them because I know plenty of teachers that just give grades to their students but Coach Davis is an amazing role model and teacher you probably just got mad cause your kid failed his class or was a trouble maker.
