I have just discovered that my child will be having Coach Davis at Homestead next year due to Coach Davis moving to the 6th grade to teach science. I am very concerned. I have watched this man for years on the ball fields and courts. I don't want to judge him unfairly but I know people that are in their upper 50's that had him in school. I worry that at his advanced age he will lack the patience and stamina required for 6th graders. Also, has he kept up with current teaching practices and techniques? My child is not perfect and has some special needs. He is perfectly able to be in the regular classroom but I am unsure how his needs will work with Coach Davis. Do any of you have any experience with Coach Davis? Or any experience working with the administration
at Homestead in regards to problems with a teacher or the classroom?

To begin with, coaching and teaching are two different worlds. Next, if you have a concern about him being a sixth grade teacher, talk to the person who put him there. He had taught 8th grade for years, but the administration apparently thinks it will be a benefit to 6th graders to take him from 8th grade and move him to 6th grade. I have known coach for years and my first child had him. He is a fair teacher, but if they don't study they will not pass the tests in his class. He actually makes sure they learn and earn their grades. So like I said, if you have an issue with being worried about having Coach, talk to the administration there-she's the one in charge of moving all of the teachers around.

Wonder if he ever gave up his 30 year old science books for modern ones?

Had two children that were blessed to have him as a teacher. They were more than prepared for high school. First day in class one of the kids had a teacher say to them that they could tell they were from homestead because they already knew the material. The older books explained many of things much better than the new books and they used them to help in the class. The only thing with coach is that the kids can get him off topic very easy so they have to study and take good notes. The majority of the kids love him and go back to see him after they leave. That says alot.

Well I had him when I was younger and I had a classmate bothering me so I bothered him back. Well Coach only saw what I did and wouldn't give me a chance to explain. He made me get on my knees and apologize to the classmate. Totally horrible. After class let out everyone was calling me adog and barking at me for being on my knees. And that was over 15 years ago. i can only imagine how much hateful and unconcerned he is now. What a nightmare.

I had coach Davis when I was younger too and he was mean, hateful and sarcastic. Back then, he did coach all the team sports so if you were a jock he loved you, if you were less than perfect he made fun of you (I guess its obvious I was less than perfect). I went from being a kid who loved school to one who literally got sick at the thought of facing him everyday. But that was a loooong time ago, so who knows what it is like in his classroom now.

I had Coach Davis and I had 6 siblings who all had coach Davis as well. He is a tough about him nowteacher but he was a good teacher who didnt put up with bull crap or horse playing. You only got one chance and then you got paddled. I would tell anyone they have nothing to worry about with him teachering their children. That was more than 10 years ago, I can not tell you

My 3 boys went to Homestead the beginning of last year. Neither of them had coach Davis as a regular classroom teacher only a gym teacher. My 11 year old has autism and coach Davis was trying to make him do sit-ups in gym class and my son was embarrassed and didn't want to do them and he started crying. Coach Davis jerked him up off the floor, pulled his pants down in front of the whole class and spanked him leaving bruises on him. My husband and i went to the sheriff's department and reported it. After their so-called investigation they told us they interviewed him and he admitted it even though my son was on the no paddle list. Then they proceed to tell us there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him and we would have to deal with the school board. So we went to Ms.Vanwinkle the only thing she did was let us enroll our children back at Martin as long as we drove them back and forth because we weren't zoned for Martin. Where is the justice? My children will never go to any school where coach Davis works.

I am calling bs on this post. There is no way in this world that Coach pulled a kid up off the floor and "pulled his pants down in front of the whole class and spanked him." First off, that isn't how Coach is. He uses a paddle :) AND he would never do anything like that. I think you are just a person who is trying to start crap. AND if that had REALLY happened Coach wouldn't have a job. Quit your lies loser.

If this had even a chance of being true it would have been on here already, teachers would have been talking about it, parents and students would have been talking about it. Coach is only human and like everyone is not perfect however this is bull. Not only have my kids had him as a teacher, I have worked with him. There is no way that this statement is true.

In my opinion this statement is probably the only one I would believe on here. I played sports so I wasn't one of the ones he made fun of but I witnessed it. Being a kid I didn't know what to do. I felt sorry for the other kids. He would make fun of kids that were slow in running or doing physical activity in school. I changed schools when it came time for my son to have him.

I hate that he is going to be teaching 6th grade. And we had been told he was being put in 6th grade as a punishment for something he did. We have been trying to find out the truth of that because if so then those poor 6th graders will undoubtley pay for it. We were told by a friend that they had a problem with him and went to the Principal and she had told them he was retiring and last year would be his last year. Instead he is moved back to 6th. They are extremely upset and plan on if any problems arise this year going even higher if need be. I am just extremely glad I do not have a child in his class after all we have heard. As for his teaching. It is also being told his grade last year scored nearly the lowest. I don't know but I would be checking into it to see for sure if I had a child who was going to have him next year. We have heard more bad things about him than good unfortunately. We also heard they let go of a WONDERFUL teacher and kept him. Makes a person wonder what the crap is going on. SO my advice is this. There are both bad and good things being said about him. And enough of bad things to make a parent wonder. SO I would dig around some and see which side is telling the truth . Better to be for warned than to go in blindly trusting him.

Coach has tenure. Other teachers that have chosen to leave did as well. Ones that were let go didn't have it and were let go for whatever reason. I really doubt he chose to go to 6th grade and if you have a complaint about him teaching 6th grade go to the person who decides what grade the teachers have to teach. the 8th grade math teacher was moved to 4th grade and isn't going to be back at homestead-guess he was being punished as well??

Well we were told Coach was being punished because he did not want to go to 6th grade. In our oppinion he should have retired but oh well evidently he has something on someone to keep being allowed to stay there. As for the other teachers. Was told that was a stupid move on the powers that be parts. But again it's not about fair play in this school anymore. It's who you are and who you know. Makes a great argument for home schooling or even better private schools.

I am sorry if you choose not to believe me. I am only telling the truth that coach Davis even admitted to doing what I said.I have a police report to prove what I am saying. If you would like to see it name a time and place to meet you at and i will gladly show it to you.

There is not a thing you can do about Coach teaching or what class or grade. The only thing you can do is move your kids if you can drive them and the other school that has room. You do not have much time to move them so you better act fast. After the year begins it will be even harder to move them. You will not like lots of teachers at any school just like you will like many teachers.

The Homestead principal is absolutely worthless. The only reason she's kept her job is because she's such good buddies with AV.
