Tipping is not mandatory. It is a gratuity for service rendered. Each and every server that waits on me begins the interaction with a preliminary 25% tip. It is up to THEM to decide if this monetary amount increases or decreases. This decision is based solely on the quality of their service and/or the size of her tits.

Waitresses of the world, either EARN your money or move into a smaller apartment. Don't expect to be paid well for just showing up. Excell in your chosen endevour.

tips used to be 10%. Then 15%. Now 20%. I always leave a nice tip - probably not 20%, but I would never just leave a dollar or two. It's not our fault you don't make much money. I mean, I agree people shouldn't be cheap, but mainly this is an owner problems - the owners of all bars/restaurants are cheap asses who don't want to pay their employees well, even though waitresses have to deal with everyone's crap and bitching for 8 hours a day. I feel for you, but don't blame the people - blame your owners.

I eat out quite often because I travel for work. I will tell all you waitresses first hand, I dont tip a percentage. I will go to Cracker Barrel and have a bill for say $10 and if the waitress (or waiter) was very pleasant AND EFFICEINT I will leave seven or eight bucks. The same applies for one who you can tell would rather text on the phone or stand at another table and visit with their buddies while I am slurpping because my drink is empty. I will leave a shiny nickle.

I get fussed at often for leaving too big a tip and I understand about the food service. I never done it but my wife worked as a waitress getting thru college. I once requested a new waitress at Texas Roadhouse in Cookeville cause she was being hateful (seriously) and with four of us dining I left a $50 bill for a tip under the condition the new waitress show it to the one we asked to not serve us anymore. So, before all you waitress start whinning; remember what kind of pleasantries you offer during service. I admit I do tip younger people more (boys and girls) because at least they are trying to work thru college or high school and I realize its biased. I also tip well to older people, esp if I learn they have kids.

So, remember, a little pleasant conversation with great service will go a long long way.

If I get a $10 meal, then at 20% is $2. If I am spending $20 bucks, that is $4.

People tip based upon the service that they receive. Personalities are different, you might act nice and joking, but some people can take offense to that.

I refuse to tip someone who wasn't a good server. I might give a dollar or two, but that is it. Just because the "norm" is 20%, doesn't mean that the person deserves it. There are two many variables.

Quite frankly, I would be pleased to get a $1 tip versus nothing at all. If you don't like the job, find a better career. Remember, you are the one who has taken the position to work directly with customers. There are way to many variables for you to start judging others. Now my friend, YOU have just been educated.

I think tipping should be done away with and the price of the food should be adjusted to allow minimum wage and higher wages for waiters. If the food and service sucked, the place would go under. If the food and service is good, I would eat there even with higher prices.
