We just got back from vacationing in Good Hart. We learned of the case from some of the locals and were curious as to the location of the cabin. Some of the locals said it occurred in "Blisswood" which is just up 119 north of Good Hart about 1.9 miles. Anyone know the exact location?

The errors are distracting as is the style of writing that is at one moment "over-flowery" with too many adjectives and at the next almost deposition-like.

Hi Karen,
I know the exact location, but the cottage is no longer there. It is at the end of a dead end road, below Blisswood. There is a road that accesses the lower cottages from the Bliss "compound" on 119. I know that the poor folks next door do not appreciate people coming down their road, since there is nothing there now but woods, and they own that property.(To be totally honest, I found this out the hard way!)
The most common reaction from people (esp. the older people) in Good Hart to the Robison murders is, "let it be". Those that were there and suffered the true horror of it, will never forget it or the pain it caused many, many people in the area. Alot of people were suspects for awhile.
I tried to read "Dead End" but couldn't do it. It didn't do anything but feel awful to me, and yes, the typos were annoying!

Thanks Ann. I appreciate the info. We stayed at the last house on the dead end gravel road below the Blisswood sign. There were woods to the north of us with a clearing that looked like the gravel road could have continued north in the past but was now covered with grass and weeds. Nobody in Good Hart mentioned a thing about it. We found out from some people in Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

Yup, you were next door, then!
Did you know there is a new book being written, non-fiction, about the murders? The author is from Illinois, and has been interviewing several people in and around Good Hart this summer.(I don't know the title yet).

I grew up in Petoskey and was 9 the summer of the murders, later became a reporter for local radio and have a place nearby. I've read the entire police report as my late brother-in-law was Emmet County Sheriff. I've been interviewed for Detroit T-V about recollections, etc. Here's what I'll say... MSP I interviewed firmly believe it was business partner. I think the real story lies with him. Who knows anything about him? THAT'S the book I want to read!

First off, their name was ROBISON. And the murders occurred in about 1966. I went to elemetary & junior high with GARY ROBISON. Just a few years ago, one of the local Detroit channels did a news bit on the Robison family murders and indicated no one was ever charged--although it is thought that Mr. Robison was dealing with "underworld" characters. Because of this--his entire family was murdered on vacation.

YOU ABSOLUTELY DID NOT GO TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH GARY ROBISON BECAUSE HE WAS MURDERED (ALONG WITH HIS ENTIRE FAMILY) THE SUMMER OF 1966---WHICH IS THE SUMMER BEFORE GARY ROBISON WOULD HAVE ENTERED SOUTHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL WITH ME. THE LAST GRADE GARY ROBISON FINISHED WAS 9TH GRADE (JR. HIGH AT THAT TIME). GARY NEVER WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL.

ACTUALLY, THE MURDERS OCCURRED IN 1967---GARY ROBISON HAD JUST FINISHED 9TH GRADE AND WOULD HAVE ENTERED SOUTHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL AS A 10TH GRADER---HAD HE NOT BEEN MURDERED. I REMEMBER HIM AS ALWAYS BEING A NICE BOY. WHAT A SHAME.

Actually, Claudia, the murders took place in June of 1968, is that a typo, hard to tell with your double-posts. Not sure the year Gary Robison was born, but he might have attended his first year of high school, since it was 1968 when it happened, not 1967...or 1967 like you previously stated.

I went to Southfield public Schools all my life (graduated from S-L in 1976). Anyone living in Lathrup Village would have gone to Lathrup Elementary School kindergarten to grade 6 (McIntyre Elem opened when I was in 6th grade); Alice M. Birney Junior High for 7th and 8th grade and either Southfield High or later Southfield - Lathrup. As far as I remember, 9th grade was always "high school". Gary Robison was older than me - I was a couple of years older than Susan. She went on my bus to Lathrup Elem. I remember her vividly and can remember the shock and horror we all felt when it happened.(I was 10). The business office Mr. Robison and his partner owned was at the end of my grandmother's street - right on Southfield Road.

Claudia, you are mistaken the murders took place on June 25, 1968. I know this because not only do I have the police report in front of me as I am typing this, but I also spent time speaking to the lead detective who investigated this case. His name is Lloyd Stearns. He along with his partner John Fliss gathered a lot of evidence against the business partner. But, just before he was to be arrested for this crime, he committed suicide in March of 1973.
As for Gary Robison, he was born 12/15/1951 making him 16 1/2 at the time he was murdered. And he did attend Southfield Lathrup High school.
