I am a happy citizen of Greenbrier. I have lived here over 6 years and am now also a proud homeowner with two children having gone through the school system here and still have one in it.
I believe that there is a lot about Greenbrier that needs to change. I am hoping to be a part of that if not the one to help bring about these changes.
If you believe, as I do, that somethings need to change in Greenbrier, give me a holler. Heck, give me a holler even if you don't agree.

There are a few things in our quaint town that I would like to see changed. First off I know for a fact that we need things for the kids to do. I know that there are two parks but that does not offer much for the kids who do not play ball or are above the age of 5.
There needs to be at least one place where kids can go with things to do other than walk and/or cruise around and get into trouble. It needs to be current enough to offer up-to-date activities and serve as a 'safe place' for our kids.
Some of the activities could include video games, game room, gym or basketball court, study room and possibly a crafts-type area. There are other things that could be included but that is a start.
I know that this costs money. However this would also be a chance to open some job positions for a few of the local residents.
Just a thought on that topic.

I am very surprised that there have been no comments. I am trying to open up discussion on topics of Greenbrier and nobody, absolutely nobody, has commented. Do the people of Greenbrier truly not care? Or are they simply ignorant of what is going on?
I'm amazed and ashamed at the residents of this town. If you don't have comments the least you can do is pass the word on about this site.

I have just recently been reminded of one of the largest problems affecting the young adults of our town. Does anybody else realize how many adults contribute to the deliquency of minors here? Just last night a group of under-age drinkers acquired beer from a man named Matt. Matt has been known to do this before and he will do this again. He didn't drink any; he provided the beer for the under-age kids at that house. The beer of choice was Natural Ice (Natie Ice).
This is not the only adult that supplies to our kids. Many adults are supplying cigarettes and drugs as well. Do the parents of these kids truly not see this going on?
I'm about tired of this type of thing happening so blatently. I KNOW the people here are not THAT naive! We adults and parents need to get together and do what hasn't been done: Take care of this crap!
If any of you reading this happens to be a supplier to the kids, well, your time is about up.

Now, after the zoning meeting incident ( http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp... ), maybe a few more people will be interested in what is going on in this town.

Just because I have some issues with the city doesn't mean that I don't have a heart. I may b*tch a lot but it is for good reason.
Thanks for the response. Merry Christmas.:)

Guess everything is going good so far. No big political happenings, no serious crimes that have made headlines, nothing special.
How about those crimes that nobody notifies the authorities about? How about the schools using the 'No Child Left Behind' as a reason to put no less than a D in the grade books? How about the idiots who drive through our neighborhoods at more than 30 mph without thinking twice?
Holidays are over; It's time to start caring again.

Wow. Still absolutely no comments on our quaint city's issues. Will I have to start attending the monthly city and school board meetings to bring up some of these issues?? I guess if it doesn't occur when I'm working at the local Domino's Pizza I might be able to make it.

This is a problem in every city in America,I grew up in Springfield and before liquor stores I knew where to find the bootleggers and drug, I was a teen and I hung out at the billiards and arcade room. My brother grew up in Greenbrier and it's so close to Springfield and Nashville there is no saving it.

Three words describe that stuff, disgusting for it's taste, cheap for it's price, and deadly describes the use of poison, and that's what alcohol is.

Some do, some don't, and others just do not care. I myself though believe that once a kid is so old that they are no longer children but young adults who are acting on the influences of their infant years and early childhood. I myself and largely responsible for the actions of my fifteen year old son.I make no bones about the fact that I raised abominable children because I was at heart an abominable man. Now my children act on my old ways, but I believe that my prayers to God will make a difference, and even if that means one of them winds up in jail for life or worse, or in and out of institutions, there will come a good thing from the punishment that the Lord may see fit for them, Lord knows I never gave them any kind of just punishment.

I used to supply kid's without regard myself. I can tell you that no angry movement or threat from another stopped it. Those things only drove me deeper into the darkness and that's honestly what I think happens with those things because they don't actually solve the problem.
It took the Holy Spirit to change my mind.

Roncoat,

Thanks for being so open and honest with me;it is very much appreciated.

I see your points and can understand to an extent. I am happy that you have found a way to make a change for the good. It truly is better late than never as one can sometimes help turn others around even after their children are grown.

As for the problems with adults contributing to minors: I find it is the wrong thing to do. If the kids are your own and you take responsibility that is one thing. However when you supply other kids you are crossing not only the legal line but the line of decency as well. I know that there will always be adults who do not share my sentiments and will continue to supply however if the citizens of Greenbrier will take responsibility for the kids in the community we can at least get the morons OUT of our town. We all have to pull together, put our vast differences aside and work to better our community and make it a safe place for our kids.

I'm not blind, I'm not ignorant. I fully believe that we can have a better community regardless of our religious differences. We will never all see things in the same light but there ARE some things that we all stand together on. Those things are the base for a good city.

Good to see you back Roncoat.:)

I believe that many things that are accepted as normal are indecent. There are many examples I could give but I won't, I can't begin to imagine how to control such a force without being chewed up and spat out.

You said it "there will always be adults who do not share my sentiment. The key word there is always, so you are left always right back where you began with the same old problem to deal with and never solving anything. Getting them out means more spring up and it's a never ending battle because you are constantly tossing people out.
Ldydrgn wrote:

Something like that is gonna require a pretty heavy clamp down on the people and total control to boot. Do you propose to create a network of people to implement this type of situation? I think that's the only way you can be "totally safe" short of faith in Jesus Christ.

My religion teaches spiritual degeneration will occur in the latter days , the only remedy for this situation is the destruction of the wicked and the judgment of God. I know you believe in mankind, but it's a lie, we are wicked self serving creatures and you may as well have faith in murderers who would lure you away with lies and flattery. That's men for you, just check the record.

I believe in your cause, I really believe that your intentions are noble, but your faith is misplaced. That city you dream of, that perfect peaceful utopia can never be acheived by us here, that place is reserved by the all mighty God until His rule begins and satan's rule ends.

I don't dream of a peaceful utopia; I simply want the majority of the adults to take responsibility for the children of our community.

I know that we will always fight to get the morons who prey on our children out of the community but it can be done. If it takes a network of people to implement this then let it be so. Getting 90% of the morons out will make such a difference and make it easier to keep track of new ones coming in. All it takes is people CARING about our kids.

Roncoat, you are a good person. You have your faith and beliefs. You may have done wrong in the past but it is our past that creates our present. What you have chosen to do following any wrong-doings shows in your person today. I appreciate all of your words and see it as a way to keep the "dream" from getting too big. I thank you for your words and views.

So, Mayor Billy Wilson has now bought a house on Old Greenbrier Pike (Hwy). No, he is not moving out of his stately home on Stark Street; He is planning on tearing it down to make way for where W. Main Street will be re-routed through.

My question is this: Did the city put up the money for this or is it out of his pocket and credit that it was bought?

Also, how exactly is this supposed to help the traffic flow once the railroad crossing is shut down?

Just something to wonder about. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I still find it so amazing that nobody has enough initiative to even post here. Hopefully that will change once I can get some cards out there. I know there are a lot of people in town that have more than their two cents to share. :)

So, how about the Loudhouse Coffe place? What is the deal with that? Rumors going around about underage drinking, orgies on stage and various drugs being sold there. Now there is word that the owners are being harrassed by the city and trying to shut them down.
