HI,

I lived in upstate NY as a child.
There use to be a book from Walden Books called: Hauntings of Tug Hill, NY.
The front cover showed a picture of a house with a tree stump.
Not sure where the house was (I'm guessing it was at Route 91 and Sharp Rd. I know it was close to Lorraine and Pierrepont Manor.
There was also a graveyard close to the house (just down the hill, on the corner)

The story was that Harriet Tubman stayed here sometimes and it was used in the underground railroad to hide slaves. One night people attacked the house a killed many slaves, Also they blew up a tunnel that lead from the house cellar to a nearby stream with slaves still inside)

I lived in that house from age 5-7 with my family and another family.(that was a long time ago- over 35 years ago)
There were a few weird things that happened there, but I never saw a ghost. Everyone else saw something(s).

maybe some on can check it out and get back with me. [email protected]

Lighten up it's funny. Nobody means any harm, they are just having fun. Personally I think this story is fascinating and there's probably some truth to it and people connected with it have a hard time accepting there may be some truth to it. So there.

I heard this story on the "Adirondack Ghost Stories" CD by David Pitkin and have been fascinated by it ever since. Some of the "sightings" are truly fascinating like the guy driving a team bus (high school basketball I believe) who won't talk about it to this day .. and other who were truly frightened. And to the people connected with it, don't take it so much to heart that people are interested in it (like me for instance) Nobody means any harm, not even the ones who are joking about it. It's a fascinating topic, story, that's all.

Hello Scott,(and other forum readers)

for the TRUE story of Anna Tebidor, go here:

www.tughillparanormal.com

and click on the tab marked "Anna Tebidor".

The David Pitkin story is nothing but lies and fabrication and untruths. I actually called him on it personally, and he admitted to me over the phone that he was more interested in telling a spooky story rather than researching and finding the truth. Literally, the only thing Pitkin got right was that she was decapitated in the wreck. Names, dates, time of day, surroundings, factual information...ALL of his info is completely wrong. This casts serious doubt on the truthfulness of the other stories in his book, in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with being interested in the story. It IS interesting! But the Pitkin version is totally made up, and only increases the family's continuing emotional distress regarding Anna's untimely and gruesome death. The version on our website is the only one authorized by Anna's remaining family members. Please go read it, and get the TRUE story. When you read it, note the many, many differences between our version and Mr. Pitkin's. Pitkin's only interest is selling books. He doesn't care that his lies might be causing the family emotional pain.

PS Click on the tab marked "Eerie Route 177" while you're at the website also. So many awful, creepy, weird things have happened along that road over the years that it is highly unlikely that ANY of the reported sightings along that road were actually Anna Tebidor. There are at least three other people who died on that road who would be WAY more likely to be the source of paranormal sightings than Anna, whose death occurred about 5 miles away from State Route 177.

I just read in the Rants & Raves section of Craigslist a question about the ghost named "Tug Hill Annie" and I always thought it was "Tug Hill Mary." Anyone have any further info on this?? Believe it on not I did find and article mentioning this on the internet at:http://www.strangehappening s.org/New-York-Hauntings.htm Just wondering if anyone had ever heard any rumors about this. I have heard stories about her such as three people were on Rt. 177 at night and they picked up a female who was walking down the side of the road, the front seat passenger climbed in the back and let the female set up front, when the driver turned to speak to her she had disappeared and was sitting between the two backseat passengers, LOL!! My dad was a lifelong resident of Lowville except the times when he was away to college and in Germany in the Army, but he always said it was a bunch of hogwash. Just curious who has what to say about this??
Tug hill Annie was real. She was killed above Montague Inn and was married to P Js dad.

Thank You for getting this all started. I have followed this tale to lengths you wouldn't believe & have found it fascinating. My father took me to see the actual wreck when it was initially towed into Lowville at the time it happened. Obviously I was a very young child, but I vividly recall it. My dad tried to explain parts of it to me in terms that a child could deal with. I even recall placing my hand on the fender. It really left a lasting impression.

I have an experience...not sure if it was Anna or not but I'm more than sure it was...my aunt used to live on McDonald rd on the last house on the right it was a quite small house with a big garage next to it. Anyway, my aunt has a big St. Bernard that could intimate anyone and anything...Me, my two brothers, and a family friend spent the night with my aunt that night, because she didn't like being there by her self for too long. Well that night around 7:00-8:00 my brother went to let out my aunts dog when he saw a hunched over figure like thing slowly shuffling down the road. My brother has had many scary experiences with ghosts...so he automatically ran inside scared out of his wits. About an half an hour later my aunt let her dog in an then went to bed. We all thought let's just get our minds off things and go to sleep. About midnight, my aunts dog started freaking right out. He had jumped onto the couch I was sleeping on and I could feel him shaking violently and yes he's a big St. Bernard. My aunt came out of her room and switched the lights on. We saw nothing but then the dog looked at my aunts front door and went berserk. Started barking and jumping around and was still shaking. Definitely a scary experience an not one I would particularly want to experience again.

I know no one is talking much about this anymore, but Anna was my Grandmother. My mother Sally, Anna oldest child who is now 75. Has over the years gave me details in to the Life of Anna prior to her Death in 1954. The haunting is no surprise if you know her story. One day I might have to write a book.

Does she have a tombstone? Is there a specific time I should go to see her? What should I know about her before I go? Has she ever caused harm to anyone? Will my cell work up there? Can't wait to go!

Barnes Corners - Tug Hill - On Rt. 177 a woman has been seen walking along the road, only to disappear in the rearview mirror. Other times she has been seen headless along the side of the road. The story goes that her and her baby were in a car accident, where she was killed. Somebody stopped to help and the baby was saved. She walks up and down the road searching for her missing baby.

I just found this searching the internet for Haunted places in NY. I too have heard there is an area near barnes corners that a ghost has been seen. Can't remember too much more about it.
Annie and a friend were on their way back from a wine run and crashed near a bridge on sears pond rd. Her ghost does walk the roadside and many have seen strange round lights in the field near the crash site.

however, an apparition I've been looking to see again haunts the north branch of the salmon river on a dead end road in rural Redfield where I live. I often hear coyotes close by at night and I walk the woods towards the river with a rifle because I've lost some pet dogs to them. I've chased them across the river then I stop, twice doing this I have seen a raggety looking old man sitting by water about fifty yards downstream. I have pushed towards him through brush and briars only to find nothing when I get close. But I could smell cigar smoke lingering in the air. He looked so old I couldn't believe he could move that fast. And no one should be down there. Years ago there used to be a house across the river and an old man who ran a sugar shack. Just the foundation remains.

Went up there a week ago. Was so hoping to see her but all we experienced was loud, strange noises. Couldn't explain the noise if I wanted to. Disappointed.

Anna rests it Lowville Rural Cemetery in Lowville. She is buried with her parents and has a very nice headstone. It can be located by anyone who may interested enough. I found it - you can too. But please be respectful.

Now thats funny! I live on tug hill i was born and raised here ive heard the story and heard its mary and ive heard that the name is annie. Never seen her tho. But i promise you the family farm i grew up on is haunted. Way back in the late 1800s 7 kids died in one winter from diphtheria and you sometimes see a little boy. Constantly hear what sounds like someone walking up and down the stairs when everyone is asleep. Crazy things happen in the barn. I counted that i threw down 5 bales of hay but when i come down theres only 3. Go back up throw 2 more down theres only 4.and yes i can count its serious shit. I had something fly by my head and break a window once no trace of what it was just broken glass. Cats hissing at thin air like they can see something. Radio changing stations even after i broke the knob off.

She was a real person, and there are a few old timers left who actually knew her. She was a wild lady and the old fellas joke about how she could piss 7 clap boards high!
