Has the DEC been able to produce a recent environmental impact study for areas upriver and downriver of the dam? I am sure the EPA and other organizations require this (by law) before an action of this type is allowed to take place.

Thats the State for you they can do as they want doen,t matter what the Rules or Laws read, if they want to do it, thats fine and Dandy but if you or I do it we go to Jail, New York State is the most Crookedest of all.No it don,t matter to them about the Conservation or people that live above and below the Dam.

conversely, where were the (usually necessary) permits, environmental impact statements & Army Corp of Engineers inclusion & oversight etc.etc....when 2/3 of the Island, which was formerly swampland & unique habitat filled w/gravel & debris & trees fell & unceremoniously tossed into the river & houses built on top to form the current island as it stands now w/o any fines, or penalties incurred. Seems an awful lot like Yin & Yang IMHO.

It's sad to see. There are few places left today that you can actually see a truly working wood mill. Soon our children will only be able read about these places. I really do hope they find a way to preserve this historic place and keep it running. Instead of destroying it why doesn't the NYS Government protect and restore it. "Oh that's right we are not New York City."
