Seems to me the legislators' time would be worth more spent on trying to bring businesses and manufacturing into the county. Ya know.....JOBS!!!
Please excuse my "hick talk", but it ain't never gonna happen! The county, and the residents, do not want jobs. Everyone is afraid that if there are more than 25 people per square mile, crime will go up.

Wow what a smart move now hopefully someone will buy it and do something with it that will really upset those of you that didn't want the county to use the grant money they were offered. The county would have been easier to deal with than a private ownership group. Good luck with that. Happy trails!

I totally agree. Without local jurisdictional control, there will be no oversight. As it would be private land, as long as no crimes are committed, the police can't even perform safety enforcement.

Why are you trying to imply that we are whiners who have spuashed a valuable opprotunity? The RR is going to remove the tracks and sell them for scrap.- FACT then theya re going to work on finding some one who is willing to take on this project FACT what dont you get? If you think you have the time & ideas to do it then GO FOR IT! stop blaming others for your sour grapes. It would be great to have a walking/bike trail and - in the winter -(since you can not walk or bike) let the snowmolbe clubs use it. They do this everywhere all the time in this county Jeez! they are in charge of marking and grooming and YES the local law enforcement CAN & WILL enforce the law when something is reported. I get so pissed when you try and MISLEAD & ANGER/ OR SCARE PEOPLE WITH LIES.

A decent walking-bike trail would have been perfect. Because of lack of forsight the tracks could now become a snowmobile or 4 wheeler track, which is what the whiners didn't want in the first place. If the county purchased the tracks, and a non profit was organized to build a passive bike-walking trail it could have become a tourist attraction. Instead we may have a trail owned by the snowmobile-ATV clubs. I hope you whiners are happy now.

For those of you whiners who think only a few people were against this, apparantly you have not talked to many village residents and other county residents. We don't want the tax burden and are sick of a few legislators who have their own agenda. Many people spoke out on this issue over the last several years. Not one person but hundreds. Tax payers called legislators. Legislators and Economic developer had no answers. Are you going to be behind something when you don't even know if it's feasible. Hell no and for those of you that want trails, join a club, hold fundraisers and build your own. That's what the country is for not the Village of Lowville or families back yards. Now McGriddle show your money where your mouth is and GO FOT IT>>> the people of Lewis County got what WE wanted. Now once you get your trails built, let's see how many jobs you create or are you all going to have your clubs volunteer to save money...Let's hear it!!!

What is your problem? HELLO??? Not a welfare state? Do you know what the unemployment rate is in Lewis Co??? It's over 13%..that's right 13% Highest of second highest in the state. Don't call me an idiot. Take a walk in downtown Lowville. Open your freekin eyes, look around. Walk past the Bateman, remodeled with public money BTW. The young ones are mostly druggies. Then you have the fat, heavy women in dirty t-shirts, then the lazy bum alcoholics hanging around, not to mention the fatties who get their "hover rounds" paid for by the gov't. Not a welfare state? What about snowbelt housing who exists to get grants to rehab houses for the slum lords? Opportunities, which exists on public grants for their "crisis" programs. Not a welfare state? Give me a freekin break! You must work for the county, state, or one of these non profits. When people invest in the tourism industry, the whiners in this county go out of their way to make those businesses fail. No I'm not leaving, I speak the truth. I'm pro rails to trails, pro sleds, pro ATVs and pro tourism...so my posts will continue to be judged and flagged on here.
