I know what you are saying.

We actually raised $17,000 to have the Marina road paved. It is a county road but it needed to be done. The residents in the area all (well most) chipped in. It is an example of what can happen when people try.

I couldn't agree more.
Our community did it because we felt it was the only hope of it ever getting done.
Sure we pay the taxes....do people get upset enough to demand it....no

I have never travel much in my life. I'm in Crockett this week visiting my new grand daughter. I had always thought that everyone in Texas were die hard Busch supporters. It's nice to be proven wrong. I have never followed politics much because I feel I am powerless to make changes. I have always felt that the 2 party system is the biggest hurdle in the American political system. They spend too much time, money and energy fighting each other to ever get anything accomplished. Get rid of the 2 party system and go back to "one man, one vote", "majority rules" systems. I know this will never happen and creating a 3rd party would only make things worse. Private interest and greed are the other problems. Men used to get into politics to "make a difference". Now, the only difference they want to make in the bottom line in their bank accounts. Last year in Calif, we went without a budjet for several months because the 2 parties couldn't agree on anything. State emplyees recieved IOU's instead of pay checks but the politicians continued to get paid. Educationa and medical programs were shut down becuase there was no money but the politicians got their free benifits, which continue for life after serving a minimun of one term in office.
My 83 year old grandmother told me never to discuss politics or religion because it always starts an argument. It was truely great advice. I can feel my blood preasure rising right now. I'll step down off my soap box now. Ya'll live in a beautiful area ..... except for the humidity.

I too came here form a foreign land.

You seem to have forgotten the heat and humidity.
It's almost as oppressive as the politics.
