Does anyone know what is going on with the local Crime Stoppers? I have not heard anything about them lately. Are they still taking tips? Where is the car? If anyone knows anything, let the rest of us know.

Thank you for asking about CrimeStoppers. Of course they are still taking tips. If you have information that needs passed on call the tipline. The car was in the Christmas parade and is used whenever an event allows. There is information every week in the paper. The 5th annual Gala to honor law enforcement is scheduled for Jan 26. This is the largest fund raiser of the year. Funds are used to further the new Crimestoppers programs in schools (where it is really needed). They are also used for training and equipment not in their budget for law enforcement. Since there is a new Sheriff who will need this support, the many voters that elected him should be rushing to buy tickets to this event and show their support for CrimeStoppers.

Thanks for the info, I agree everyone should get tickets to the fund raiser on Jan 26 2013. I think almost every law enforcement agency in Trinity County has had help with equipment and training provided by Crime Stoppers. I would hope law enforcement would encourage all the voters who supported them to support Crime Stoppers. Good luck to all the Crime Stoppers with the fundraiser. I have my tickets and we will be there. Do you need auction items donated?

You are so right about the pissing contest between Sherrif Woody and Crimestoppers chairman, Larry Grant. It's like two pre schoolers who want everything their way. They both need to get the tractors out and pull their heads out of their asses.

Well, I think the Crimestoppers sheriff's candidate didn't win. Maybe they don't want to work with the new folks in town. It seems that Crimestoppers were favorable to the county. Maybe it's turned into a political organization.

You have stated a true fact, some members of Crime Stoppers were very political in the sheriffs race. They made it known they wanted Ralph for sheriff. Crime Stoppers is a good thing for our county. It's a shame that the whole organization is judged by the acts of a few people. If you support Crime Stoppers, thank you and keep up the support. Maybe soon the people in question will leave Crime Stoppers, so they can return to their mission, which is supporting Law Enforcement, by turning over tips received, and paying for Training and Equipment.

Well at least Doug Page, Bennie Schiro and Joe Bell came out to support the fundraiser event. I heard many citizens there were disappointed that people they elected couldn't be the bigger person and support the program. It is not the citizens of the counties fault that Larry and Woody don't like each other. Not one person that is law enforcement came. Some people are just immature. Page, Schiro and Bell have my vote next time. The others well no comment.

No body wins in a situation like this. The citizens of Trinity County lose, because the children in the Sheriff's Dept and Crime Stoppers can't play together. What a sad and stupid way for grown men to act. I don't know the exact details of what happened, and don't really care. What I do care about is law enforcement doing their job. And Crime Stoppers to do what their mission calls out, and above all STAY OUT OF POLITICS.

My husband and I were members of CrimeStoppers a couple of years ago. We worked the booth at the Trinity Community Fair and had donated money to the organization for some needed equipment for our Trinity City Police Officers. It came time for the Gala and we were excited about that. Until I learned that there would be a bar open with drinks available. I don't think it was open until the dance. I sat back and I asked myself why would an organization who fights crime have an event where alcoholic drinks would be available? In other words, does it make sense to give the opportunity to drink and drive? I stated to the organization at that time that this one event, my husband and I could not work. Our moral values would not let us participate in it. But we wanted to continue with the organization for other events. To make a long story short, that just didn't happen. This is just my belief system and I'm not forcing it on anyone else. To me it would be like MADD having a benefit serving alcohol. Just didn't make sense to me. Just my belief.

And let me just add before someone gets in my face about my beliefs, we didn't go around in public discussing this or talking on the streets about this. We kept it quiet because it was our beliefs not others. I felt I needed to post this because I believe in Crime Stoppers. They have done a wonderful job nationally. I don't know what has happened to the local organization except what you can hear on the streets which may be true, half true or a lie. It's sad. Hopefully things will get worked out and the organization can revamp and get going again.

Carolyn, you can still be a member of Crime Stoppers, I don't think they sit around and drink all the time. There are good people which are members. I personally think there is too much politics involved and that needs to be addressed before they can go forward.

Why can,t we just put the topic about Crime Stoppers to rest. I think There are more important things to talk about, like pennies, nickles and dimes.

I know and we tried to be. But a couple of the members back then made such an issue of our not participating in that one function. We had no intention of leaving the organization, we wanted to continue on with other fund raisers. But it got pretty heated and we felt it was best we drop out for a while. I'm sure we'll go back when it gets straightened out.
