Here's how it went down in an East Texas courtroom last year, according to the confession of a former prosecutor who acted as a go-between prosecutor and judge in a Polk County case.

During the Aug. 8, 2012, jury trial of David Reeves, facing a felony charge of injury to his child, Judge Elizabeth Coker texted ex-Polk County Assistant District County Kaycee Jones with points for lead prosecutor Beverly Armstrong to raise in her argument and instructed Jones to pass them along to Armstrong.
Jones responded to the judge with the words "good point," then passed along the message to Armstrong. This whole sequence of events is appalling, astonishing, beyond the pale. Pick your own adjective.

Somehow, despite Judge Coker's best clandestine efforts, Reeves was acquitted.

Coker, on the other hand, deserves to have the legal-ethics book thrown at her. This isn't her first misstep. Besides charges of coaching prosecutors she's been accused of discrimination in picking counsel in indigent cases.

The remorseful Jones deserves punishment, as well. Since the incident, she has been elected as a state district judge for Polk, Trinity and San Jacinto counties. Her admitted bad behavior in Coker's courtroom should disqualify her from any service on the bench.

It appears a serious outbreak of "black robe disease" has hit usually quiet East Texas. It now falls to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct to stem the outbreak with swift action against the offending jurists.

I read about this and was unsurprised. I’m not sure what “black robe disease” is but they probably caught it from each other because they are all in bed together. Have not had any experience with criminal court, but had some experience with a civil issue recently in Trinity County court. The judge nodded his head in the affirmative to everything the local lawyer said and did not listen to anything the outside lawyer had to say. My lesson was if you need anything done in Trinity County court system; get a local lawyer who knows the judges intimately.

We are highly limited with our choice of local lawyers so. Also if Elizabeth has done so wrong why is who she was texting to the next judge?

Jones was elected BEFORE this information became public. she is trying to cover her --- by confessing and expressing remorse. She also violated ethical standards by her participation. Coker should be removed from the bench and Jones should also be disciplined.

I agree. I also think voters should look at the other judges in the county who cannot make a decision without the lawyer telling them what to do. How can you perform your duties as a judge if you are looking for the lawyer that you know in the courtroom to tell you what to do? If one cannot look at evidence from both sides and make a decision, one should not be a judge. Perhaps we should all attend at the courthouse every now and then to see what goes on. Most of us go through life and never see the inside of a courtroom. It is very disturbing to discover the standard of the elite few who run the judicial system in this area.

I had a friend who recently went in front of her for an UNCONTESTED divorce. From the time she went in front of Coker she started downgrading my friend anyway she could. Even trying to find fault with the divorce papers, like I said, it was uncontested. Coker did all this because she did not like her or her family. That should not be allowed. She thinks she is untouchable and can do as she pleases and so far she has!

You are all right on top of judging others. You immediately assume a lot and know nothing. Business as usual on this site.

Judge coker has also ruined my families life. She sentenced my 37 year old brother 99 years for allegedly sexually abusing his own daughter. There was no evidence presented that he committed this crime that he was accused of and the examiner that examined the child stated in court that the child had not been touched. But yet her and Lee Hon can ruin someone’s life behind false accusations. On top of that the whole court proceedings were unethical. For instance all during the trial there were jokes and laughter going on from Coker as well as the district attorney (Lee Hon). Another thing that took place that I was uncertain about was the fact that my brother asked for another attorney instead of the present court appointed lawyer and she told my parents that the only way that he could change lawyers is if a new lawyer is present before the trial the next day. I don’t give credit to Karma, I give all credit to God because he said in his word that “you will reap what you sow.” In my opinion Coker was able to get off easy but her judgement day is coming and she will have to answer to the almighty God for all of the many lives in Polk County, San Jacinto County, Trinity County, and other counties that she have destroyed behind her coruptness!!!

Keep in mind Jones was a candidate at the time and has to adhere to the same rules and ethics for which office she seeks. So she was a candidate for judge and an asst. DA, she violated both and she should never be allowed to hold any potion that represents the state of Texas or any other state for that matter.

It's a DA and CA conference, there is no reason for a judge to be there other than to catch up on the DA-judge texting.lmaowou

Watcher and all the tax payers come on over and see for yourself, at the café in Groveton. Every time Kaycee Jones is in Groveton she's at the DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE and they all have lunch together, no one else. Watcher, read frog's post above and learn the law.
Canon 2B of the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct states, in pertinent part, that,“A judge shall not allow any relationship to influence judicial conduct or judgment.(((((A judge shall not lend the prestige of judicial office to advance the private interests of the judge or others; nor shall a judge convey or permit others to convey the impression that they are in a special position to influence the judge.”))))) You might want to show up and get you own photo's, then post them to prove that it's not the DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!!!! I already have mine!!!!
