Awareness - parents should be more aware of what their children are doing - i.e., who they are hanging out with. Also, parents should be good role models - not drink and drive, text and talk on cell phone while driving or doing drugs. Accidents do happen of course, but alot of children die because their parents/guardians aren't discipline and their children therefore are not either. Practicing safe living conditins are key as well. It should be mandatory that every person that is expecting a child go through parenting classes - both mother and father!
