The wife and I hopped on the motorcycle and headed to Galveston via High Island and Bolivar. It was an amazing to see the devastation that took place and is still prevalent 6 months later.
I really feel for those that had their lives turned upside down by this tragedy.

When we entered the High Island area we were blown away by what we saw. Vehicles pushed into the marshes. Poles from power lines snapped like twigs. Miles of beach where houses once stood
It was breathtaking to say the least.

We wondered how the few homes standing, as well as the workers were carrying on….there were no stores or supply yards.
How does an area rebuild?

As we traveled we came across a store that was nothing more than a travel trailer. I found it amazing that an individual saw the opportunity to make a living by converting a travel trailer into a store to sell his wares.
I realized then, it is these people that make this country what it is. It’s not the FEMA people or the Government agencies….It is the hard work and entrepreneurship of our citizens that make these areas rebound.

It will be years…or more, before the area even remotely resembles what it was before Ike. I couldn’t help but get the feeling that that the residents of the area will succeed in their endeavor.

I am a two finger typer so will try and include my thoughts (for what it’s worth) on Galveston and Freeport as soon as my finger cramping lets up…

I think all the stimulus went to Galveston....that's what the clients at the hotels would indicate.
Wait, that's FEMA!

20 years olds standing around in gangs with shiny black escalades with $3000 rims at 1:30 on a Friday afternoon.
I can't understand why they weren't helpinmg rebuild the city? Theres plenty of work.

I talked about it all weekend. Just pisses me off.

Damn, I could have saved a trip! lol

Great link and I hadn't seen it. It is hard for pictures to really catch the feel. I had seen various slide shows and it was just much worse in person.

I wish it was as simple as being a Democrat thing....unfortunately it seems the Republicans are doing their best to show their sensitive giving side.

Its a contest to see who can make life easier for those that do nothing.

Maybe one day we'll be ready and we'll find a candidate that stands for the American work ethic?

Hi MFC. I see you've been 'traveling' again.:)
I have been ordered by husband and family to stay home and take care of business (if I can't stay out of 'ditches'), much of which gets neglected if I'm 'on the road too much'. Oh well....trinity has a really good forum and I always enjoy reading the info and opinions. And since I don't know s---t from Shinola, or the difference between truth and balderdash, poppycock, and hogwash, guess I'll just stay home and read and try to figure it out......or maybe I'll just go fishing! LOL

Nothing wrong with fishin....and not knowing sh-t from Shinola isn't so bad either.
In fact...we can all run for Government positions!

But being ordered to stay at home by the husband?
Hmmm, I am a bit surprised

Oh I meant 'forum' traveling. Guess you and I have visited a few of the same places! Well I guess it gets to be addicting since there isn't much to do in Crockett. However, I'm sure there is a sign somewhere on me that says 'open mouth - insert foot - close mouth - chew!' I have no business being on forums since I'm not 'forum broke!' Oh well.......how are the fish biting?

Bass are doing well. A small tournament caught over 200 last weekend and a couple we know caught a 11.23 and 9lb.
Crappie are heading in as it warms as well.
How'd I do?

As far as "not much to do in Crockett?"
Tell me your kidding...lol

Well, you did good, but......is that the truth? Lol! Anyway, kids reading the posts (which I have no problem with - its a chat forum) are unhappy with the direction some have taken. So, after getting my butt chewed on the forum and at home, guess I'll get back to business. Trinity has a good forum and I enjoy reading the views and opinions, but when I throw something out (maybe so I'll get another opinion to think about) or I am 'kidding around' too much I just offend someone, which is not my intention. And I have much I need to catch up on. So, where do I stand on anything?? I'M ON THE FENCE! LOL

I swear....it's even in the Courier!lol

Seriously, the way I look at these forums is you can't please everyone all the time. I know I write things meaning one thing and re-read it a while later and think (wow, that didn't sound good).
Most of us are well intentioned and can get our backs up on occasion. Nothing wrong with that.
No one forces anyone to read or post.

Just keep repeating, "I'm here for my own entertainment!"
