i have been picking up some copies of the Grapeland messenger lately. I must confess I am impressed with Nichols ability to wrie a good article about things happening outside the confines of Houston County.....that matter.

I have been really disappointed with the Courier and will not renew....too darned sickly sweet and topical.

Anyone else read the messenger?

As long as they continue to print the crap written by Billy 'Hollyfool' Groves I refuse to give them a dime.

As far as local journalism ,the Messenger is superior! Not much more news but the pictures are clearer and Nicol has an opinion at least.50 cents is way too much for the Courier(I always get 2 ) At least they got the Nascar page back !!

That's what I like about the courier. You have to show opinion and create debate in a peper.

You are acting foolish. When you call another person a fool because you don't like what thay write, you have that right to not buy the courier, remember treat others as you want to be treated even if you don't agree with them.

Billy writes what he feels his readers want to read, don't hate on him for that, why don't you start writing what you feel the readers want to read, you'll talk about him being a community activist, what are you doing for the community? he may have a lot of faults so do we all, don't look down on a mam unless you are reaching down to help him up. And you talk about the president being a community activist , tell ne why didn't you run fir president since you know so much.

I guess we should point out that he writes in The Houston County Courier.......I do applaud anyone for writing what they feel as opposed to stewing.
Though, I must say I don't agree with much of what he feels.

But that's okay.......Trinitard likes my puke!!

The Grapeland Messenger is simply a rag. Wouldn't waste my hard earned money on it.
We are loosing a lot of businesses in our county. To bad the Messenger isn't one of them.

I like reading all the Houston County papers.
These papers remind me what reading papers 40 years ago in Houston County was like.Nothing changes in this county.Nothing.

I appreciate having the Messenger. For someone new to the area it provides me with an insight into the community, events and regretfully CRIME.

I feel Houston County is very fortunate to have THREE publications: The Courier, Messenger, and Houston County Life. All three have their strengths. I agree that Hollyweird's columns are a joke. If you've ever spent three minutes with the guy, you would realize he is a true racist. Everything's about race to him. He will grin up in your face though. Poor guy. He's never had a real job. I heard from someone who used to work at the Courier that he turns in his columns written on whatever paper he finds lying around his shack -- scrap pieces of paper, napkins, written with map pencils, crayons, whatever he has. This was a few years ago so maybe he used his "crazy check" (SSI) to buy a computer. But give him his props. He IS an award winning journalist. Ha!!!
