Just wondering. Is it just me or do all new people to Crockett find it one of the strangest places they have ever lived?

I can vouch for the accuracy of your thoughts.

So what is the secret to living here, finding acceptance, and feeling 'at home'?

Million dollar question.

I have a million issues with the ignorance of "many" of the people in power and the distribution of funding and services.

I live at the lake and we don't get anything from the county and yet we are taxed the highest in the county. Our nearest fire protection is 18 miles away. I pay almost $500 per year in taxes for the E.S.D. and get nothing.

The fun part is trying to change anything.....the usual response here (with officials and busines leaders) is to ignore everything and do nothing...eventually it goes away. And it does.

If you want some entertainment go on the appraisal districts web site and start looking at tax rates on peoples houses. Check out the "Big names" in town and you'll see Million dollar homes taxed on $78,000 valuation.
I have a rental home off the water valued at $104,000.Hardly fair.

Another small item:
I talked with a water district employee one time about the seriousness of the boil water notices. He stated it was a very serious concern when the pipes break (which they always do).
I suggested that since we didn't get the mail out for 3 days and have already drunk the water they might consider e-mail notification.
They could place a notice in the paper requesting e-mails and send out a notice whenever there was a boil water notice.
He agreed it seemed to make sense.
When he brought the iidea up at the office they told him it sounded like a lot of work.
C'mom, you push a damned button.

I could go on and on.
The biggest problem I have is that no one tries. It's not country, it's ignorance and laziness.
No jobs for kids or adults, rampant poverty, litter is disgusting and drug use abounds.
Yet these people have truly convinced themselves they are in utopia?

Guess thats what drugs and ignorance do to you. lol

I will say I have met some fine people. Apathetic but nice. I believe you have good people and trash here with little in between.

You may ask why I moved here? The same question I keep asking myself.

Oh, I should add, I don't want to be accepted by anyone in this town. I am quite well without that.

Sorry for the rant. Ask me how I really gfeel one day!

We're on the same page. If I hadn't had bad luck since I moved here, I would have had no luck at all. Nothing has worked right, miscommunication everywhere, bad service, bad products, etc...and on and on. And why don't the people want Crockett to grow? It would mean more choices, better quality at lower prices; more jobs; more recreation for the young people (movies, restaurants, bowling, etc); more real estate sold; a higher tax base for local and city governments; its a win-win situation! Everybody benefits. So how could that be bad????

Oh yea, on the water thing. With infrastructures getting old everywhere and falling down, taxpayers dollars that should be going for that wasted, its a good idea to maybe keep a large supply of boiled water, get a really good water filtering system, or drink bottled.

I run a Houston Based business from my home. I have constant communication failure, cell phones don't work here, Phones suck, internet in not reliable and not really high speed.
Then I start dealing with my day to day business problems!

Myu kids went to school in Latexo. I saw all the kids that graduate with mine talk about how they hate it here. They can't wait to leave.

I don't understand the reluctance to allow outside businesses and growth. I truly think it has a lot to do with the genes or lack there of.

I have tried to help, I was involved with bringing kids soccer to the county, we were involved with school and I even ran for school board.
The system beats the energy out of you. I can't tell you the amount of people (good people) that have thrown their hands up and left our little utopia for brighter horizons.

Heck, it's not like we have something unique or precious here. It's proximity to the larger cities is the reason it will grow, regardless of thiose that don't want it. I for one, will enjoy seeing the good old boy system crumble.

Look at the businesses that have gone out. Childs Radiator, the Ford Dealer, Husky trailer,J Bears and I hear Harvey might be following?
What a joke.

Well you did good getting involved and trying to make things better. With all those business going out (I didn't know about that) what does that mean for Crockett? I would like to get involved in the community and tried a little but it didn't feel right. Been thinking of other things.

I live out at the lake and have been active, politically for a while.
I have wound it down for the interim due to a lack of anyone caring about anything.

I am really not one to get overly involved until I moved here. I just had a hard time seeing what was, and is happening.

I have offered to donate land and labor to build a fire dept. out here at the lake and have been snubbed and ridiculed.

It's not just the locals that are strange....loads of the "outside" lake folks fit the bill as well.

Maybe it's nation, or world wide?

Guess I've blown my cover by now....not that I give a crap.
I'll stand for my beliefs anytime. I'm just a country boy at heart....

Yes everything is changing. And its changing all of us. The wonderful country life (we're country too) that we thought we could find doesn't exist anymore. The America we grew up in doesn't exist anymore. Guess we have to start seeing things with new eyes and a new heart. Find happiness each day, stay close to friends and family, and live each day to the fullest. We're all in this together, may we all find peace and joy.

Very true Homesick.
We all try and turn the clock back when we move here. I think you, like us, couldn't see a lot of sense in running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.
We enjoy the slower pace but have difficulty coming to a complete stop.
An in between is nice. Does that exist....maybe so but not here.

In comparing here to Houston....I can't live there anymore. I like to hike, ride a motorcycle and enjoy the outdoors. It's a frustrating place to live....I ask myself if it's everywhere? Maybe, maybe not?

I don't plan to settle here....I like the country but the stupidity is rampant and to tough to deal with.
I am however, here for a while.
Maybe, just maybe, the area will become a little more vibrant and open and I can call it home?

Perhaps we will meet one day and try to fing the positives lol

Homesick, it appears the quality of life in Crockett has the Trinity people in awe.

Yes it seems the good people of Trinity have more than their share of problems. And it seems that those that could fix them (or start to) don't really care. So there are a lot of families worried, as well they should be, about their kids. Too bad we can't just wave a magic wand and make everyone's life great. If I could, I would.

I wish I would have known what I know now before we moved here so I could have made an 'informed' choice concerning my life.

So unlike you I could live in Houston again, very easily. Even at one point packed up everything, put a contract on a house, and then changed my mind. I really would like to make it here, but who knows if that will happen.

At least you are out at the lake. I'll bet its really pretty out there. And I would have thought that there was a lot of 'camaraderie' out there.
