What do you guys think of this? I can't find any rational discussion of this anywhere:

http://countylifeonline.com/2011/11/30/cisd-t...

I posted a story comment that was critical of the dome, and it was removed the next day, I guess by Houston County Life.

Over 3 million of our tax dollars are doled out to Crockett ISD. Word is Latexo received funds from the feds also (FEMA/Timothy Geitner). How many other school districts across the US received these funds? Over 15 trillion in debt and the feds are driving us further over the cliff with more gimme programs. What gives?

I find it more amazing to see how quiet the Tea Party is when these atrocities happen in their hood.
Hypocritical isn't it?

What is so amazing? What does the Tea Party have to do w/it anyways...Red Herring from Crockett? If you truly find it an atrocity (which I doubt from reading your other posts), then YOU are the hypocrite for somehow blaming the non-response on the Tea Party. This is nothing but political misdirection. Shoo fly. Regardless...this "Dome/Safe Room" is simply another government goody that the taxpayers cannot afford. It is irresponsible to keep borrowing money to fund pet projects that are masquerading as a "Safe Room", when it is really nothing more than a sports arena.

It has a lot to do with the Tea Party. The area is full of Tea Party Patriots that turn a blind eye when something happens that benefits them.

Much like the State School being turned into a Federal Detention Center for illegals.
It is hypocritical to object to Government spending unless it happens in your back yard. Pure and simple.

Certainly no rational discussion here yet...for sure...let alone logical.

Nevertheless...always willing to give it another go...so...I am interested in getting opinions on THIS specific federal project...SPECIFICALLY![Notice that the evil Tea Party is NOT mentioned in the above reference article...therefore, the Tea Party is not expected in any response...unless...of course...you are an Obamabot that loves him sum Crockett Obamadome ;)]

So...is this a good way to spend federal dollars? If not/so...why? What about the consequences/implications/cost s of rolling this project out nationwide?

Seems OK to me. The High School was going to build a new gym anyway, why not take a few extra dollars from the feds and strengthen it to make it tornado proof? I dont have kids in school anymore, but I would be right comforted to know if severe weather hits (and that NEVER happens in Houston County, right?) the kids have a safe place to go. These are our tax dollars that we sent to Washington, why not bring them back to build stuff and create jobs in Crockett?

Not like this is a full federal handout either. Article said the school is on the hook for 25% of the base construction, plus all the bleachers and flooring and stuff that make it a gym instead of empty concrete shell. Probebly end up more like 50/50 by the time all is said and done.

Seems to me the school board is being pretty smart, getting the yankees to help pay for part of this gym in Texas.

Looks like hog hunter37 digs pork. Word to those with their hand out...we have a HUGE national debt, and this project will only add to it. And yes...Crockett is on the hook for a significant portion...and is mysteriously laying off teachers...could it be to help pay for the "Safe Room"? Well, the FEMA beaurocrats have figured out a way to justify it in the minds of the ignorant...just say..."It's for the safety of the children". The Feds and the school district CANNOT afford it. The Owebama Dome will be a monument to our suicidal self-destruction.

You should question why Jack Patton is involved in getting Grants for Crockett ISD. Mr. Patton was previously a school superintendent in Llano ISD, and he lost his credentials after pleading guilty to numerous charges. Mr. Patton, if I remember correctly, took kickbacks from contractors while building and renovating schools in our district.

Mr. Patton also allegedly scammed Hereford ISD by accepting matching grants without telling the school board about the matches. Hereford built at least one school building that was never opened because the district couldn't afford it. He did all this while the HISD population was in decline.

Mr. Patton also has the distinction of being the first person ever tried and convicted for violating the Open Records Act at Llano ISD.

I was a newspaper reporter, and the person who requested the documents that got Mr. Patton convicted.

If you have concerns, do PIA requests and ask for Change Orders for any building projects. Find out who the architect and the contractors are. Find me on Face Book if you like. I'll answer any questions about that case that I can.

Yep...thanks Owebummer for increasing our national debt to 17 TRILLION dollars.

Hey joe...watcha gonna say when your kids look you in the eye 20 years from now and ask you "What the hell were you thinking?" Well...at least you can tell them you have some great memories of some basketball games...or something.

Pull your head out, joe.

Steve, Crockett got that Safe Dome because the Crockett Grant Writer is a pillaging, robbing former Llano ISD superintendent who shouldn't be involved in any kind of School Administrative activities. Look for his 2003 conviction and his guilty plea to other charges in the 33rd Judicial District Court and you will find that he lost his license to work in any capacity in any Texas school and ask yourself why he is involved in Crockett ISD. Reply if you need more info.
