Folks, heard last week St Louis County and Jefferson County are running a month long special on checkpoints. See the releases from Troop C website shown below.

Heard there was one over by Home Depot last saturday night, 9/8/12
and also on Telegraph at I255 at the same time.

Really. The problem is their "money making" definition of drunk.

.08 is not drunk and giving people a $5000 ticket for operating a motor vehicle at that level is ridiculous.

If you can't see the cottage industry these people have built for themselves then you are drunk!!

well its simple, if you're going to be operating a motor vehicle, don't drink anything, then you have nothing to worry about.

how hard is it to plan for a DD, or call a cab. or Don't drink. pretty simple stuff.

P.S. apparently a $5,000 dollar ticket isnt enough, because people are still willing to risk getting one by having a few and driving.

I think we should make the punishment for DWI either jail time, or like $20,000. maybe then people won't take the risk.

Didn't Nazi Germany have checkpoints? "Your papers, please" was the line we used to joke about. Now we aren't even "asked" for our papers (license & insurance card). It's demanded. And the Gestapo (cop) demands to know where we're coming from and where we're going. Is it really his or her business? Can you say "police state"? And I know there are those that somehow think "I have nothing to hide or I'm not drunk", but you are completely missing the point! This is violation of every innocent person that is stopped. It's "guilty until proven innocent" at the minimum.

Exactly correct Bob! "Completely missing the point!" Finally someone else who sees these "checkpoints" for what they are. A direct violation of our constitutional rights.

Don't get me wrong I am totally against getting completely ripped and getting behind the wheel, but seriously, getting harassed and fined for in some peoples case having 2 drinks while out to dinner is absolutely absurd. I know quite a few people who may have a drink once or twice a year and none of them are incapacitated after 2 drinks.

My original point was the .08 level is ridiculously low in order just to generate revenue.

It seems very easy for some to just completely trash any common sense statement on the subject rather than look at the one question at hand and that is the .08 level. Did we vote on this? Who established this parameter? Oh yeah the one's who directly benefit monetarily from it.

Yes, indeed! It is just like nazi germany or russia, or communist nk or china. Let me see your papers! The constitution guarantees the right to travel freely without government intervention - like dwi checkpoints. it doesn't say safety checkpoint -or rapist - or murderer checkpoint. Murderers do not have money for defense, but many dwi offenders do have plenty of money! Therefore we have the cottage industry you speak of. It is a true money maker!

What I don't understand is if you can't have two drinks and drive home, what do the police think peoples cars are doing on the parking lots of bars for hours. If you are going to go out and party let me tell you about stldd. They are great and very reasonable. We have used them several times and when you get up the next morning your car is home. Average price is about $40.00. No accident No arrest and they seem to enjoy their job! Cheap by comparison.

Actually moron, the average fine for a DWI is $750 not 5000. That is what u pay when u want to have a lawyer try to get you out of it.

Well I'd say your the moron if you think you can cover the cost od a DWI for $750. All the court costs, satop, and etc. cost more than that.

Who in their right mind would not acquire a lawyer?

Perhaps some of you Morons on here would think differently if your wife, child, sister, brother, mother, father etc was killed by a drunk driver.

As usual nobody can just comment on the original question that was posted.

.08 is ridiculously low and only is meant to grease the wheels of all involved.
