I'm from Cleveland and was a bit worried about hurricanes however I've been here 3 yrs and haven't had to evacuate.Haven't even had any wind dammage. We are about 30 min from the gulf and all the fun touristy kind of activities yet inland enough where life is less expensive. It's a good place to raise kids this being a military town,it has a great patriotic aura. And there is no snow to shovel! I am glad to be here and will be for a long while.

The area is basically a poor area, there is not much to do, there is a LOT of drug use in this area, 1/3 of the young people in the area are already missing most of their teeth because of Meth. The teenage girls are very trashy, A LOT of leisbian activity because the boys like to watch. I moved here 10 years ago and opened a business, they don't help support locals unless you consider Walmart, and the buffet places. Not much into fitness or good health. I have everything I own up for sale so I can move away. Walk through Walmart and look around. Coming to the area. Move to Destin, especially if you have kids. On the brighter side, the country areas are nice to drive through.

I recently moved here and I love it.The area I live in is very nice and yes there are not so good parts of crestview, but destin also has not so good parts.I like the small town feel and yes you are right they do need to support the locals better. It just depends on the area you live in.
There are drugs in every state some more than others we will never get away from that. I am happy that I moved here and don't have to shovel the snow.

I have to agree with "Moved here". I'm a young girl that was raised in a proper family, so I'm not tempted by what I see in schools around here. But I can assure you when I have children, they won't be attending these schools. Teenagers down here are more interested in sex and drugs rather than what they want to do with life. There's nothing wrong with gays and lesbians, but down here it's only for show, not for love. Even the little kids talk dirty and say crude things to their teachers, older students, and each other.

Until I went to one of these schools, I didn't know anything about drugs or phrases that I really could have gone without knowing.

I've seen all the changes in Crestview, from quiet, dirt clay roads to busy highways and stores that come and go...Crestview was once a town where you knew all your neighbors & most of them were your relatives. You didn't have to pay for entertainment...you just had fun driving around town, visiting family, going swimming and an occasional movie, etc.,etc., Now people have moved here from bigger cities and Crestview has grown tremendously. Too bad the economy here hasn't caught up with the growth. And we have to just about sell our souls in order for our kids to join organizations like cheering, dance, gymnastics, etc. THE COST IS RIDICULOUS!!!! The kids feel they need these groups to be accepted and the parents are pressured to fund these expenses. It's okay to charge for services but come on people, it's crazy...this is Crestview we're talking about. Here an average household family's income can't afford this. Come on people..think about the area kids and stop thinking about your profits. No wonder kids turn to drugs they're probably more affordable.

Ever since the hurricane hit Louisiana, and Mississippi, the people here have gone stupid! Your right it is Crestview, Not Palm Beach, they shop at Walmart, eat nothing but buffets, and charge a fortune for everything else.

Wow!!!!
I guess it really depends on where you come from and what your used to its either half empty or half full.
Coming from a place where you prearrange your escort home if you work late, keep your hands in your pocket so thieves won't see your nice rings, schools are filled with graffiti and the stairwells smell like piss, you literally step over kids making out in the hallway and you spend your time trying not to get caught in the crowds for the 3pm fights. Thieves invade your home because they want you there so you won't interrupt them breaking in, you carry money to give to the robbers but they kill ya anyway...read the local topics on this site for other areas and then you would be very happy to live in mayberry ...oops I mean Crestview.

Guess you need to read the newspaper. Home invasions are common, business get broken into daily. Dollar store woman got stabbed at 7 pm at night, pizza hut robbed twice at gun point, more drugs in area than in major cities. Middle school girls pregnant every year. Child molestors out the yang yang. We have a lot of bad crime for such a small area. Oh yeah, stay off main street near dark, lady beat almost to death at 5pm for $2.00 in her pocket, and stay out of the whole neighbor hood behind it, the neighborhood behind Kentucky fried chicken and south of bridge on east side of road, you'll get your jewelery stolen off your fingers there too. Welcome to small town living.

Person who works for the local government stole a grill, then came back and tried to steal a gazebo from Winn Dixie near the high school. People are so used to seeing pregnant teens here that since I look young and pregnant I actually got carded for glue.. I watched a very obese woman who could barely walk, come into the DMV trying to renew her license and got turned down (Apparently for the second time) because she was driving in both lanes of the road (Wasn't a two lane road), and wasn't stopping at red lights or stop signs.. yea that happens anywhere sometimes however the kicker was the woman was angry at the DMV! And the best part of all is I may have bought a house in front of what may become a landfill, and never knew.

Cannot wait to move and never come back :)

I have lived here two short years, and I can honestly say I cannot stand it here.

Born and raised in the inner city...spent 5th grade attending 4 funerals of MURDERED class mates. Watched a 13 year old girl get stabbed in the chess over a 12 year old boy only to have her sister come and stomp the knife into her chest. I don't pretend this is heaven far from it but BELIEVE ME...this ain't nothing. GO to Brooklyn... the Bronx...Compton...D.C. any Big city. I work Law enforcement...ask any cop here if they would like to work in some of the bigger cities. That's what we need to do is recruit more law enforement from the larger crime ridden areas to work here and get a jump on the crime as it increases. Right now IT JUST AINT THAT BAD.
Businesses where I come from have roll down steel gates on them when they are not open. You would NEVER and I do mean NEVER catch a business without the gates on them after hours. Gates and bars cover residential windows as well.Window gates are a THRIVING business up north.
Crestview is nothing to complain about.
My question...what part do you play in trying to make it better?

I've actually lived in Brooklyn and several of the bad areas of New York. And like you said "Big City" - Crestview is far from a big city yet it has an insane amount of crime, lack of education etc.

You're trying to compare crime here to crime in areas with 100 times the people that we have. Thats a little silly frankly. The crime is bad, the education system is terrible, the medical system is a big fat murderous joke, and the city is terribly designed - "lets make ONE BIG ROAD and plop everything down on it!". The customer service in most of our stores is hilarious, and the city is unbelievably dirty. True there are a few things about Crestview that are nice, however don't ask me to name them right now.

Lets talk about bugs shall we! Keep in mind, I have lived in about 3/4ths of the states in this country, so it's not as if I have only lived one place and have a biased opinion. The bugs in Crestview are SO BAD. I can't even go out to swim at my pool, because there are these bugs called thrips! Microscopic little BITING BUGS that you can't kill. The cockroaches and palmetto bugs are out of control.

And ok if you can stand bugs lets talk about the plantlife! We have these trees around here called popcorn trees, not sure of their scientific name, however they grow at an amazing rate and KILL your foundation! Good luck to you if you ever have a septic tank out here! We bought our house and after only a YEAR of living here we had to drop 3000 dollars on a new tank because of a stupid tree root we didn't even know was there since it grew so fast!

And how about those allergies?! I have never in my life had allergies.. until I moved here. Now I have to take a handful of pills everyday just to be able to breathe. I go up north on a Ski-trip and it's like being in heaven, even though I'm in the middle of the wilderness. I'm not the only one who has said this about Crestview. I know 6 other people who never had allergies until they came out here.

But if none of this appeals you, and you are truly seeking a place that should be known for the fact that the banks and buffets outnumber the general population, by all means be my guest. Yea I'm a bit sour about it, since I'm stuck living here for the next few years. In all honesty when I first came out here I had high hopes and was charmed by this city. However I feel nothing but hatred for Crestview now.

Its stupid to even try to compair Crestview to the Bronx, get real. For a small town there is probably more crime per capita here even, than there. No matter where you are there is someplace worse. And crime is not the only thing that makes a place crappy to live in.
