Where is the news?

Apparently we don't have a news paper here. We have someone who throws out paper on a daily basis that people pay WAY to much money they can keep it to start fires in their fireplaces!

Strange, the report found on kcci (DCI Releases More Details in Creston Death Investigation), dated Thursday Aug. 28-2008, never made the news in the Creston News Advertiser... the news paper looks very inadequate and biased on covering things that shed bad light on the community leaders, why does the community even want the paper and if they subscribe, why not stop, as they are not reporting on the updates, not keeping their subscribers informed!!!!!!!!!!

The opinion page should be a home section. They seem to be mindless drones preforming a
task. They opine on gardens, weddings, and other trite. An opinion may actualy indacate they have not abdicated the role of truth.

They have been too quiet for too long. No news from a local paper, when every other city does have some news about these topics. The Register in DSM is laying off. Who will need a job at CNA if reporters don't report? I imagine they have lost a lot of subscibers early on. Affordability is one thing but people won't pay when there is nothing news worthy to read. Just my opinion...

There's a wonderful story today about the vote in the school board election. Watch your votes. When city council comes up rethink your vote. Sherriff is elected and paid by citizens. Time to re do your vote and re claim your town. Let there be peace in the valley..

75 cents a copy is theft by deception. News should be removed from the papers name. Its just as filled with ads as the Des Moines paper. Far be it for us "readers" to demand news. When they increased the price by 50% they should have increased the content by as much. Also if they actually had opinions they may not need to purchese all the syndicated ones, thus they may become the comunity voice they should be. They enjoy freedoms given to the press by us. So vote by keeping your .75 cents each day.

Not buying the paper. Online today is a story to inform us that Ronald Adkisson does have a family and they want information from anyone and everyone. Best of luck to them. I can't even get info so their lawyers have their work cut out for them. They didn't say they were going to sue-just that the family lawyer needs a lot of information on this tragic death of a 59 year old man. God Bless his family and friends.

Relative of man found dead in front of law center employs law firms

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation isn’t the only one looking for answers.

A relative of Ron Adkission has employed the services of two law firms to get his final affairs in order and possibly find out the circumstances of his death.

Adkisson, 59, had been taken into Creston Police custody just after 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at Fareway, 105 E. Adams St., and was tasered while being removed from the business. Shortly after being released from police custody at 6:45 p.m., Adkisson was discovered by a passerby lying motionless in front of the Union County Law Enforcement Center. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the DCI at the request of Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon and the Creston Police Department.

One firm, Reynoldson, Van Werden, Reynoldson and Jeanes of Osceola, has placed an advertisement in the Creston News Advertiser requesting information about the circumstances surrounding Adkisson’s death.

A representative for the firm said the motivation for placing the ad was to find any information about the incident from those who where at Fareway on the day in question or might know someone who was present.

Neither law firm representing Adkisson’s relative would elaborate on their motives beyond gathering information on the incident.

“I’m aware the Reynoldson law firm is in contact with law enforcement agencies,” said Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon.

The other law firm, James L. Pedersen, P.C. of Mount Ayr, has been working on opening an estate for Adkisson.

Documents filed in Union County District Court today list Luella Kay Adkisson as administrator of the estate.

According to a representative for the Pedersen firm, Adkisson’s relative who has hired the law firms, is involved in a fact gathering situation concerning the events of Aug. 25, and that to formulate any kind of case, an estate would need to be established.

The Pedersen rep also stressed no law suit has yet been filed by either of the two firms via their client.

Thanks for putting article on topix. Very little information is frustrating. The family and lawyers should be able to get some news, but the sweep it under the rug syndrome is still alive and well in Creston and Union County. A lot of subsciptions have or will be cancelled-but they put in a small article and some can't even afford increase in paper. A lot of discussion is good, for us all to be able to express opinions and just general info will help before this is all over. Keep up the good work and best of luck to all. Too many good citizens, all who work, or have retirement to let thes people down We all deserve better. Just a thought..

Why hasn't any one come forward? Somebody shopped at Fareway that day..and I assume that a worker called police on him. I shop Fareway and I sit on the bench...with diabetis and other health problems. I'll still buy the meat, but I better stay off the bench. Also AARP age plus. Who will shop for me now? Please eye witnesses come forht and get the news in the paper....people will also judge you for not speaking out. Is everyone afraid...opinions are for all.

I was thinking that Mayor Woods was having a meeting on Wednesday to announce his choice for candidate chosen as new Police Chief. Will there be another assistant if the former one wasn't actually necessary? I din't see it if it was in the paper. Topix is slowing down some on posting comments. Pray but don't keep this far from your mind.

Creston News Advertiser has stated that on Ocotober 13th, Paul Ver Meer of Carroll will start as Creston Police Chief, he has accepted and will start duties behind Brian Burkhalter. Thank you Mayor Woods for your meeting and his acceptance.

Please, Lord, let Mr. Ver Meer be a good, respectful, honest police officer. Let there be no officers on the force that will try to run him out just because he is doing a good job.
thank you

Today is Tuesday and the story is not front page of CNA on my computer. Go to the news part on local news inside and it tells about how and why he was hired. He has good qualifications. If the in towners got the job-people would not have had the trust they need. Outsiders Welcome.

It is in the Wednesday paper-inside-not front page on the qualifications and how they chose Paul Ver Meer for new Chief. Read the inside section on your computer and it tells he is young and does have good qualifications for the job. Good luck to all. Trust is important here.
