By the way, I am new to this forum and did not mean to get my name close to "Creston Res" I just noticed that. It was the first thing that popped in my mind as a screen name. Sorry.

I have lived in Creston for about 10 years now. I have seen retaliation from the Creston police first hand. My friend had a problem years ago with some neighbors who were always having parties until 3 or 4 AM, throwing beer cans in his yard, harrassing his wife, and they even offered drugs to one of their kids. The neighbor went to the police and nothing happened. He took it to the sheriff and they finally stepped in. Turns out the men who lived there were either related to a member of the police department or were friends with them. He even said after that some of the officers would hang out there and party.
Apparently, the Creston Police were not happy that he went to the sheriff and they started to harrass him. He would be pulled over while driving, often times for no reason. Most of the time, they would never give him a ticket. When they did, it was for stupid stuff that you see all over town. One day, I was at his place and the police pulled up and wrote him a $25 ticket for parking on the wrong side of the road (His car was parked on the side facing on-coming traffic). True, that is technically illegal, but in a small town everyone does it. I see about 10 cars parked that way per day. How do I know it was harrassment? There was another car parked a block up the street the same way. We pointed it out to the police and he just smiled and said "Don't worry about it."
The cops would also follow him leaving A&G or Windrow and pull him over to see if he had been drinking. Funny thing is that he hardly ever drank and everyone knew it.
Ironically, he has not had any problems since Christensen and Sickels have been fired. Coincidence???

"Woman Power, we have gone over this before. The punk reporter came down to make a name for himself by slamming a a small rural town. Just look at the people he tried to interview. Would he have tried that in Des Moines? Would he ask the Mayor of D.M. what he thought of a case involving two police officers? Possibly. But the owner of a car dealership in D.M.????? NO WAY! School Officials? LOL! Council Memebers? Business owners? Puhleeeze! The newspaper would fire him if he tried that in D.M.! First off, why did he pick such high profile people to question? Because he knew they would not answer and because it wasn't HIS town! Second, if he tried that in D.M. the business owners would have pulled thier advertising dollars out of the newspaper! Duh! So he came to Creston to make a name for himself. I honestly hope Mayor Woods called the D.M. Register to complain. Do you honestly believe he thought the Crestmoor manager was going to give him "the scoop"? Or was it sensationalistic journalism? Do you think she wanted to lose her job just so she could give some eager beaver the inside story?
I really don't know what else can be said about this incident without rehashing old news and gossip. The facts released so far have been discussed. We probably won't receive anymore facts until the trial.
Now as for your comment about no one in Creston having a backbone. Have you called the D.M. Register to tell them what you think about the case? Well how about it? I will get the reporter's email address for you....possibly a phone number.
Anyone else interested in calling the young reporter and spilling your guts?"
I posted that several weeks ago and you never replied...Well Woman power?
Okay how about this.....can someone provide one undocumented FIRST HAND account of retaliation or the threat of retaliation. First hand...not "my neighbor's cousin's best friend said....."
For as smart as you think you are??? DId you not know the trial is going on now? What do you mean ..wait for the trial??

That was was a cut and paste from an entry I made about a month ago.
Probably should have clarified that when I reposted it.

Don't worry about using a name close to what someone else has used. At least you are aware that it is a name and not the opening line for your next entry (unlike at least one other person).
Thank you for your entry on retaliation. I personally have not experienced it....or witnessed it. And trust me I am no wallflower.

Finally, a rational person on here!!!

Apparently, I don't run in the same circles as some of these people.

I had no idea Creston was such a horrid place to live. Like any other town doesn't have its share of drugs and vandalism? Little Chicago? Puhleez.(rolling eyes). I've seen far worse towns in Iowa.

Wrong, the topic of this blog is the perceived unwillingness of Creston residents to speak to a D.M. Register about the charges against the accused.

That is what my friend did, he went to the County sherriff hoping they would do something since the police didn't. The sherriff did and then the Creston police made his life hell for going above them (at least it seems that way, why else would they start harrassing the guy?) He ended up filing a complaint with the state about the behavior of the police officers. He was told they would look into it. That is about the same time that the DCI got involved in the rape investigation. He never did hear back from the state.

By the way, I am a friend of Creston Rez and we both know the family that has had problems with the police.

I also think there are people here who would move in a heartbeat if they could. I know I would. I have talked to others in town that would like to go somewhere else also. But the economy is terrible and I have a job here, so I guess I am stuck here till I find something else. I have to think of my family first. I sure am not going to give up my job here until I find something somewhere else for sure. Of course, if I get laid off or the place closes, then I will definitely get out of here.

And I do not want to get out of here just because of the police. There are alot of things wrong here. Rampant drug use, rude and obnoxious teens, run-down houses and lots that look like they should be condemned, a corrupt and poor school district...I could go on.
