unfortunately this is all too common, many people would rather not move to creston because so few people take no pride in themselves or their property. they are happy looking unkept and impoverished. My family moved back to rais our kids here and I'm almost ashamed of how the town looks when people come to visit.

Let's take pride in our community and help make it grow and be a better place to live. let's get rid of the druggies and others who are happy looking like trash. THIS IS NOT APPALACHIA-- MAKE CRESTON NICE!

People have different ideas of what white trash is. I have been reding people bash each othe in her and I can tell you that we have moved to an area that have two homes that run around $500,000.00 to over 700,000.00 the oter homes around 200,000.00 and a few of ours just under and we pay our bills, no garbage in the yard, lawn moed weekly but because we didn't pay more for our house ,we don't care if we keep up with the Jones's, we like harleys and we are laid back people we are made to feel like white trash. It clearly doesn't matter how nice your house is it's about if you make enough money &you kiss a little but.

I DROVE AROUND CRESTON TONIGHT JUST LOOKING FOR NUISANCE PROPERTIES AND FOUND VERY FEW CONSIDERING THE SIZE OF THE TOWN. I SEEM TO FIND THE MOST OF THEM IN THE SAME AREAS OF TOWN. MOST OF THEM THEM ARE IN FORECLOSURE AND SOME BANK, WHO KNOWS WHERE ARE IN CONTROL OF THEM.
NOW HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT IT TAKES FOR THE CITY TO GET THE PROPERTY CLEANED UP? VERY FEW OF YOU, I SUPPECT. FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO THE ACTUAL OWNER OF THE PROPERTY IS THEN SEND THEM A LETTER AND GIVE THEM A PERIOD OF TIME TO GET THE PROPERTY CLEANED UP.
I KNOW FROM TALKING TO THE FIRST NUISANCE OFFICER WHO IS CURRENTLY RECOVERING FROM A STROKE, HAD OVER A 100 NOTICES FOR UNLICENSED VEHICLE TO BE REMOVED FROM PROPERTIES AND SEVERAL OF THEM HAD BEEN REMOVED BUT IT IS A VICIOUS CYCLE AND BY THE TIME YOU GET SOME REMOVED OTHER MOVE IN.
THEN IN THE SUMMER THEY GET COMPLAINTS OF UNMOWED YARDS AND IN THE WINTER UNSCOOPED SIDWALKS. ONCE AGAIN YOU HAVE TO FIND THE ACTUAL OWNER OF THE PROPERTIES AND SEND THEM A NOTICE.
THE CITY CHARGES SOMETHING LIKE $75 AN HOUR TO MOW A YARD PLUS A $100 SURCHARGE WHICH IS CHARGED TO THE OWNERS PROPERTY TAXES IF IT ISN'T PAID RIGHT A WAY.
THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT A NUISANCE OFFICER IS PAID ONLY FEW DOLLARS AN HOUR AND ALLOWED 20 HRS A WEEK WITH NO BENEFITS TO TRY AND TAKE CARE OF THESE PROBLEMS PLUS SEVERAL OTHERS I HAVEN'T MENTIONED THEN I WOULD ADVISE ANY OF YOU TO APPLY FOR THE JOB AS I KNOW THE CURRENT NUISANCE OFFICER IS ONLY DOING IT UNTIL THE FIRST ONCE IS WELL ENOUGH TO TAKE IT BACK AND IT CURRENTLY DON'T LOOK LIKE THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
MAYBE ONLY ONCE ONE OF YOU CRITICS TAKE THE JOB CAN THIS TOWN BE CLEANED UP OVER NIGHT.
ONE OTHER THING, YOU CAN CONTACT HE POLICE DEPT AND GET A COPY OF THE NUISANCE ORD. FREE OF CHARGE, I KNOW I GOT ONE, BUT I DON'T THINK YOU WILL FIND A COUCH ON SOMEONES PORCH WILL CONSTITUTE A NUISANCE
Only a "few" in the same area, are you blind, the problem is getting worse, and there are more than a few and it is a problem "all" over town. There are ordinances on the books and have been for a long long time, and they are not inforced and never have been, "SO WHY HAVE THEM"? It is a problem I can not understand, as, all it takes is some energy and time, to clean up and keep your yard mowed, and scoop your sidewalk, how hard is that? When you own property it is the owners responsibily and I say fine them heavy and hard, then you might get there attention to keep their property up, when ordinances are inforced and there is no slack, citizens will pay more attention..right now who cares, as, they get away with it and they know it. Paying someone to do the job is not working either, have the city go in and clean up and bill the owners..The City of Creston needs to send a clear message.. A NO TOLERANCE POLICY

I have only been in Creston twice. Once in the winter and once this summer. I really couldn't see all the trash in the winter, but when I went this summer... WOW... 3/4 of the houses are run down and need major paint jobs. Lawns were so nasty that they looked like a junk yard, and a feild of grass.
Creston has the potential to be a nice town.. such as Lenox that everyone speaks of.... that I have never beent to.
I understand that the town is trying to make a difference and it does take time to get everyone to follow.
You can't just leave it all up to the town council to make changes... residence also need to take pride in their town.
I'm not sure why the dog got brought into this convo..... but pet waste also makes a town look like trash, most towns have a law that you NEED to pick up pet waste or you will get fined... and letting it pile up and such can transmit diseases to other pets.

I have a clean property intown and hoodlums came and spray painted vulgarities all over my building it seems that the police just dont pay attention to whats going on downtown. I however am sick and tired of hearing how it needs to be cleaned and then having someone tear it up.

If you're going to insult people's intelligence, you should probably make sure you know how to spell first. That's one of the things I hate about this shithole town. Everybody here is so quick to run their mouths about people, but they've got plenty of skeletons in their own closet. That and you all apparently never made it past grade school because your grammar and spelling skills are atrocious. And who are you to talk down on somebody's job? At least they have one unlike the majority of this town. Why don't you pull the stick out of you ass, get down off your high horse, and get over yourself.
