The owner of the Portillo's Restaurant Group has agreed to forgo tax incentives in New Lenox, where he plans to open a new Portillo's in September.
Dick Portillo told Mayor Baldermann, keep the tax incentive and give it back to the community. It is estimated to be $60,000.00 a year for 7.5 years, or a 50% reduction of the village home-rule one percent tax.
The Mayor was amazed at Portillo's generosity.
Portillo admitted he did not know where New Lenox was but said he was getting lots of e-mails from residents asking to open there.
