Update: The old carriage house next to the Haven has been restored by Fish and Wildlife. There is a 8' Iron fence, not chain link, IRON fence around it. All the doors are pad locked.

Any how, I am interested in any abandoned property in Jamul, Descanso, Dulzura, Alpine. I live in Jamul, and am soley interested in taking photos, not breaking and entering, vandelism or any of that hoodlum non-sense.

Hope u find the info.i sent & u didnt post useful. If u live in Jamul its time to pluck your head out of the sand u are losing your lifestyle because of a few greedy people. And to know the truth of why Indians have casinos u need to go & spesk to them personally. We sent them to school& made them Lawyers&such took there culture Made them Chatholics made them to dress& look like us.Now why do u suppose they became likes or could it be they beat the white man at his own game.Hey I didnt write history Im just reporting just think about it after u fume....k
I get what you are saying to a point, but why not give them the same chance as we have? If they can beat "the white man"-even though I'm a woman, btw, and this is not just a man's world anymore, all the more power to them. The mexican's coming from Mexico "for a better life" is bringing our economy down and hurting us, not the Indians.

I worked for the lunatic for awhile. She accused me of stealing right in front of my step daughter. I was smoking hot and quit on the spot.
I now live in the Ozarks, so I am not sure what happened to the house or barn.
Where exactly would the basement be.

I just happened along this posting board and it just brought back so many memories! I actually got married at The Haven August 10, 1992. Frieda was running the show and I'm not sure if it was her brother or not that was going to cater the reception. The whole ordeal cost about $10k. We had to clean the entire property up ourselves and the 'brother' took off with several thousand dollars a few day before my wedding! She was a crazy old lady...she seemed to be everywhere in town wearing her red long shorts for many years after my 'big' day....She was just a nasty old lady that wasn't happy...AND yes NUTS! We never did get any money back...the marriage didn't last a year either! I wouldn't say the Haven was haunted...maybe just a little cursed..Lol....the carriage house was beautiful I remember with all the stones and rocks around..this
is where the wedding party got married...the grounds were absolutely breath- taking after we cleaned them up..it was the most beautiful outdoor wedding anyone could hope for..

It is also hilarious now thinking back on my wedding pictures...you can see Frieda peaking through the trees and just wandering around the entire time...in those same red shorts!

It was very sad to see that landmark disappear. I have lived here 37 out of my 41 years...it is very sad that my own children will never experience the Jamul that I experienced...it is strange to see a stop light and an AMPM in the heart of town...it is sad that Simpsons Nursery is now gone and the historic house is falling apart...my kids will never know how exciting it was to be able to get a free pumpkin from Mr. Simpson and bring it back Halloween night all carved up and how we put them on the fence with all the other kids while Mr. Simpson came up to each and every excited child and handed them a crisp $1 bill!

Sad how times change.

I have seen the house and barn on Honey Springs. The barn at the house seems to be set up for animal fighting, there are grooves in the floor that run out of the slab like drainage, perhaps for slaughter house or animal fighting.
is this house your referring to the one to the left on honey springs rd with the house visible from the street and the 'barn' or 'warehouse' abandoned in the back? with a bulldozed portion of something in the middle of the property? if so ive been trying for years to get additional information on this location!

Freda died on April 18th 2004. And I did hear from a neighbor that Barney hung himself in the back house.
I was a good friend of Mrs. Freda. She was the best woman I ever meet. I just like to say, Mrs. Fredy. Just Rest in Peace, I well always have you in my hart, love aways and well remembered you always!

Do you have any pictures you can post of the property on your wedding day? I'd love to see what it looked like in good condition. I was there the day it was torn down. It was sad to see.

I found this post while looking for a recipe for the coleslaw salad served at The Haven. I ate there many times and that was my favorite side dish. I don't really like coleslaw, probably because nothing tastes like what I remember from there. Any ex employees remember this?

Does anyone have any information about an area by eastlake and otay lakes called "Gardens by The Lake"?
abandoned houses yet its still well kept....
Yeah. Its by the dam by otay lake..the graffiti'd one. Lower otay i think. There is fencing and barbed wire, too hard to get in. I researched, it seems the properties were part of a historic ranch that still rots there on private property. I have asked the owners if i could see it and they say no.
