kay, first you tell us to quit it. quit what? then suggesting that it's a good thing jen didn't write the constitution cuz she'd have people b-quiet that had something to say. isn't that what you are doing?
yes, it is a tragedy that beryl died too young. i don't think anyone is suggesting anything else.
you are not the only one that had experiences with the haven thru the years and the people that owned the business. you may have known them better or perhaps a part of the family. i would suggest you don't read these post if it bothers you that others are discussing their experiences concerning the haven.

FYI:

I stopped by the site yesterday. The Haven Restuarant and Bakery sign is all that remains. I took a photo with the intent to publish it here but can't figure out how to do that.

The old buildings are all gone having been demolished by the new owner. Looks like some grading is underway.

when i was born in 1991, there was absolutly no one in jamul. i live in lawson valley, its over the hill from alpine. it sux to have these things that ment so much at once torn down. its like everywhere u turn there is a starbucks or fast food complation. i never had a chance to see the haven after it was abandoned but i wish i had. the only haunted place we have left is procter valley road, and all thats there is some made up story of a procter valley monster or a chupacabra or somthing. i went last friday and saw the procter valley ghost, i got scared but the feeling went away once i saw the multi richy houses and city lights. money and wealth take the fun out of haunted areas! get the f*** out if you dont like dirt roads and move to new york cuz we dont want you here!

is frieda still alive? more nuts? wow, she was hard to work for i remember that. could be very mean at times. constantly yelled at her husband. but i am sorry to hear the haven is gone. what about the house behind it? there was an old barn too. i remember owls lived in the barn. when i was working for frieda she would punish me if i didn't do something right or quick enouph by makeing me pull weeds in lawn area.
I have lived in Jamul since 1991. I have long wondered the fate of the original owners of the Haven. I really appreciate everyone who has informed this board of their knowledge.

To the two people that have worked for Barney & Freda Unterberge at the haven, i would really like to talk more about the fate of the business. There is rumor that the Haven was shut down for what i was told "cult like activity in the 80's by the local authorties. I know there is also the rumors of suicide... can either of you back any of these extreme cases up.

Why i believe something odd happened at the haven: As i am entering my career in real estate, i have come to learn when really bad things happen to property (murder, suicide, rape, or worse) the property often sits for long periods of time, as to cleanse the minds of those around it, hoping that eventually a developler or buyer comes along to restore the property to a useful establishemnt. I have a really good feeling this is what has occured with the Haven.

I have also come across a creppy house and barn out of honey springs road many miles past the haven. Appears the barn and other buildings are now property of the government after the 07 wild fires. all the area around there seems creepy. I'll post pics on my return.

I have been tracking the Haven for a while, it kind of fascinates me. I've been there several times and saw them tearing it down. I'm going there today to see if the house and barn are still there. The workers said they were only knocking down the haven but almost a year has gone by so I'm curious to see what actually was done to it. You caught my attention with the honey springs rd house, where is that? Can you give me directions?

Hi my name is Amanda Lahourcade (Clower) and I don't even remember how I came upon this site? I saw these postings regarding Jamul and I was intrigued. I live in Jamul when I was 7 until about 13. I attended Jamul elementry and Oak Grove Middle school. I lived off of Myrtle street and Lyons valley road. I have to say my memories of Jamul are very strange and seem like another lifetime ago. I lived across the street from Lisa Perry and was best friends with Christine Dickinson. I will let you all know this, Jamul is very haunted and I witnessed some serious ghosts and Lisa's house was very haunted as well as Christine's. My house was strange as well and I was never alone when things happened, so I know it was not my imagination. I believe it may be tied into Jamul's history and Idians as I used to find many indian artifacts. If any of you remember me or the people I talked about feel free to respond. I'd like to know your thoughts?

I have seen the house and barn on Honey Springs. The barn at the house seems to be set up for animal fighting, there are grooves in the floor that run out of the slab like drainage, perhaps for slaughter house or animal fighting.
It is now governement owned land, as is the carriage house on the Haven resturant and Bakerys lot.

The Havens parcel is now a foreclosure, "bank owned". I believe Fish and Game have purchased the carraige house as a Histrocial structure. Typically in CA a building over 100 years old is considered Historic. Does anyone else think its odd the Haven was bull-dozed in 2007, being built in 1907.... sounds like someone was interested in redevlopment before the 100 year mark. It is also true, when something negative happens to a property, it sits, purging the owner of having to disclose the incidents until that period has passes and no mention is required by law. I would like to explore the "cult like activites" at the haven....My old employer in 2003 told me this was way the business was shut down in the 1980's, long before this blog was posted. Those were not the first time I have heard of a cult in Jamul, there are still a few practicing cults in Jamul... too bad we lost the haven
