Johnny's is across the street from where the fire was. I feel really bad for everyone, especially a guy who had just renovated his building, outside and in. Pretty crazy morning around here! Lets just hope something is rebuilt, instead of another parking lot downtown.

Tommy's?
Downtown Cville is looking pretty chaotic right now. That building is gutted. Feel really bad for whoever just put so much money into renovating that one little shop...we were amazed at how good it was begining to look.
Silver Dollar...used to be a great hangout-haven't been there much lately.
Hopefully everyone upstairs got out ok, anyone know of any charity drives or anything?

What a half-***ed report this is for a newspaper that claims to serve the state of Indiana. Crawfordsville is a good town, and some of us care about the downtown.

What is the excuse for the Star not having a reporter on the scene, rather than relying on the TV stations? True, the fire broke out too late for the Star to get the story in this morning's paper, but they still ought to have gotten Kevin O'Neil out there by now.

Anybody know about the theater? I still am unsure whether the fire is on the east or west side of Washington Street?

The Vanity is safe - it's the other side of the street that caught fire, down by Pike Street. I haven't had a chance to go see the damage because all the roads were closed off, and I don't go downtown on my way to Indy for work, but I'm interested to see the damage, and what shops exactly got burned. I do have to say, waking up to the sound of news helicopters isn't my idea of a fun start to a morning.

If they rebuild the Silver Dollar, I hope that they put some doors on the bathroom stalls in the ladies room!

I doubt that the CPD are going to mourn the loss of the Silver Dollar.

I too live near C'ville and heard helicopters flying over my house this morning when I woke up. I knew then something wasn't right. Then I heard the news on the radio. My boyfriend was able to get down there and see it and I believe he took some pictures. He knows the family that have yet to find the young man that is unaccounted for. My thoughts and prayers go out to these folks and it is a hard hit to the downtown community. We will all be in shock for while, but we will get through this.
