It saddens me that all the animals were killed in this horrendous fire. As much as I would like to see some of these animals be saved, I have to agree with the firefighters for not going in to get some of these animals, since this would have cause risk of death to these firefighters.

The only question I have is: Why wasn't Crawfordsville's aerial unit fixed? This unit should have gotten immediately attention when it malfunctioned. More of this store and maybe many of the animals could have been saved if the Crawfordsville fire department wasn't negligent.

If I remember right the owners of Jackson Hewitt was located in the building, at Pike and Washington streets, that was a total loss from a fire which includes the loss of a life . Now for the 3rd time they will have to start all over again.

I sure hope they find out what caused this fire.

I used to go into pet products all the time.
i stood there and watched that place burn helplessly.

how could any human being go into a burning pet store and walk by all those helpless animals and leave them there?
i understand that firemen have rules that they have to follow, but if they had enough time they should have at least tried to save some of them, if it was up to me i would throw that stupid rule book in the fire.

there were hundreds of animals in that fire. no birds escaped. they cant even fly, there wings were clipped.

also one of the big birds, nikki didnt escape either. he gets padlocked in at night.

if this ends up being arsen, that person should be put to death.
just because they are animals doesnt mean they dont count as lives.

they have beating hearts and many animals just like the ones in that store are loved by humans everyday.

my question is, how could those firemen walk in there and not save them? just because they werent loved by anyone yet? or they werent in a home?

well they were loved by everyone who walked in there and especially the people who worked there and cared for them.

These animals losing their lives are so sad and feelings, including mine, are running high. But, if it wasn't arson I'm wondering if one of the animals escaped and maybe knocked, say for instance. a heat lamp over.

So my qustion is, did the owners use heatlamps on the snakes or other critters that may not be able tolerate the air conditioning very well. This keeps going through my mind over and over. And I think it's possible that the owner could have let up his guard and didn't have one of the animals secured very well. I hope the cause of this fire is found. And, yes, if it was arson I hope they shoot the person who started it.
