Rhode Island and Maryland this year.

Repeal prop 8 and measure 36 in 2012, adding California and Oregon to the equal list.

Try again in Maine and win at the ballot.

Gay marriage? I have no problem if man laws want to recognize same sex a married couple. What is unacceptable is the Church to perform or recognize these marriages. You can learn more at http://godtrueword.blogspot.com . That is if one would want to read the truth. Nowadays, people suffers from the itching ears syndrome.

I really don't mind breaking this to you, but there have been Churches that were performing and recognizing same sex marriages for decades before "man laws" came anywhere near doing the same. The first one I attended was more than 25 years ago and I know of others that go back even further. It may very well be unacceptable to your variation of "the Church" and the variation of "God" you choose to believe in, but yours isn't a universally held belief and hasn't been for quite some time.

because same-sex marriage will create jobs in RI, right?

another symbolic move that has nothing to do with addressing the real issues here.

And according to historian John Boswell, in his famous book, "Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality", until about the 12th century, the Roman Catholic Church permitted gay marriage sin the church.

Besides Which, the push is for CIVIL marriage, not not religious unions. Churches would still be free to refuse to perform same-sex marriages or not as their conscience dictates.

Nobody cares what your church does. That has nothing to do with the law.

I agree, your church is free to discriminate against anyone it wants to. I think another step forward would be to free me from the responsibility of supporting an institution that discriminates through my taxes. Do away with the tax exempt status of churches and let them only deduct that money that is truly spent on charity. Let's get the government out of your church.

You may have mis-read the article. They ARE talking about secular civil marriage law.

Gay folks can already marry before God in religious ceremonies.

Your personal religious interpretations are only of value to your specific denomination, and yourself. But other denominations are not required to discriminate in the way you would like to.

That's why there are different denominations in the first place.

Quest, you must realize that all those other denominations are wrong for his denomination is the only true one, the only true word of god. Additionally, the purpose of his denomination is to protect the world from any dissenting thought.

Frank, it doesn't make sense to me either, but from what I have seen from Minister in other threads, he believes all denominations that differ from his are wrong. He accepts only his interpretation of the bible and everyone else is wrong.

It was written "tongue in cheek" .
