Does no one care that Cramerton Town Council may not renew their contract with the fire department for fire protection??
If this happens, we will have NO protection come July 1st and as home owners be UNINSURABLE?!
Our town manager and mayor along with the entire council have decided to place their greed for power above the interest and safety of the residents simply because the fire department's leaders won't bow down to them. Town council needs to do more for what's right for the resident's than for promoting their own self-importance. The residents of Cramerton need to get involved! Don't let our town "leaders" do this to us!!!!

Yes the VERY important Town Council of Cramerton have gone too far with everything in past two years and yes I agree that they have really put their desire for power once again into something that the residents don't want... we need to be able to vote for these issues. I want the Fire Department to stay volunteer!!!!! But they won't listen to us they will do what ever they want anyway.

As long as we keep quiet or give in to their bullying ways, they will continue. We HAVE to talk about the issues and remind them that they are supposed to put Cramerton first and NOT their own personal agendas! I cannot belief their arrogant, self-entitled behavior! HOW can Cramerton POSSIBLY benefit by NOT renewing our fire protection?!?! The entire town government needs to be replaced!

Well, effective Thursday night at midnight, those of us who live in Cramerton will have no fire protection. The fire department will close, the trucks and equipment to go into storage and eventually sold. All the hard work and dedication of those VOLUNTEERS just simply down the tubes. The residents of Cramerton, in their silence, give support to the town's decision to not renew the contract. This is a sad place to be.

Not exactly. Cramerton will have fire protection come Friday. It just may be provided by another department.

Yeah, if there is a call, someone will respond...that's called mutual aid. We shouldn't need to resort to that. Cramerton will be considered as being without protection as far as the state is concerned.....and our insurance rates will skyrocket.

I have heard Cramerton proposed a contract to the fire dept. But dept would not sign. From what I see the fire dept is just a hang out. I for one would rather have New Hope protect my property. Professionals run New Hope.

The proposed contract was evaluated by the state fire marshall who said that the town taking over the department or a merger was not legally recognized in NC. The town insisted that the FD sign the contract. They had no choice but to decline. The town manager and mayor's response was to say that as long as no one sued, a contract didn't have to be legal. What people don't seem to realize is that the FC is a seperate entity from the town...an independent contractor. The town's "model" to control the fire department is not unlike them going to Food Lion and dictating their vendors, putting the manager on the town payroll and controlling the books.

The firemen are volunteers. They go to classes and training, often several times a week with no compensation. When the state fire marshall asked about specific training and was told that the volunteer squad was compliant by 100%, his response was that most departments in NC average about 50% for the same training. New Hope is a great department and they are fortunate enough to have members that are career-trained firemen. That doesn't negate the ability of those serving in Cramerton.

My question is how does Cramerton benefit with their propsed takeover? The salary and benefits of a fire chief will be expensive. Why do that when the town is getting all that for free??? Is it because the firemen don't belong to the 'right click'?

It is all a matter of control. Peoples, Worley, Helms... they all need to go.

Well, the town begged for another month of protection to give them time to figure out how to take over...and the fire department caved in. I guess the holiday fireworks displays were paramount to standing up for what's right? We are celebrating our country's independence. A mockery when our town is slowly becoming a dictatorship.

Why did fire dept cave in to town. Could it be that without the town, the fire dept would not have a contract and would cease to exist.

No the fire department would not cease to exist. The board 'caved' because there were fire works displays scheduled that had to have the fire department there. Ironically, the fire works show was sponsered by the Cramerton Rec Dept and Life Church. Life Church is owned by one of the fire department board members.

I want to thank Life Church and Cramerton Fire Dept for allowing the show to go on. My kids loved it too.

The Cramerton fire department is like a little kingdom. They've always had a bunch of drama going on. The town is growing and needs a more professional department. It's time for the volunteer fire department to go. We absolutely need something else!

You apparently represent the voice of the town. Define "more professinal". And I don't see how they've been a "little kingdom". Those guys sit in the same classes as career firemen...have to pass the same tests. They just don't go through city-specific training like larger municipalities like Charlotte or Raleigh. It just seems that what they've given to the town is unappreciated. No one has yet to thank them for their time or commitment....again, all given freely. Explain how paying for a service already provided for free is better.

Apparently 160,000 dollars a year is what you mean by free.

Yeah, equipment, fuel, training, supplies, insurance....none of that is free. Compared to the other departments, the fire department is the second LOWEST. The Rec department at one point got nearly $250,000 for their annual budget. Other than the two paid drivers during weekdays that the town asked for, all the labor is free. Now the town wants to hire a full-time paid chief and administrative staff IN ADDITION to the current expense. AND the town will have to have a ladder truck soon and/or replace at least one of the older trucks in order to maintain the current home owner's insurnace standard. A Lot of money is going to be spent....our money.

Who's plans are to buy a ladder truck, full time fire chief and administrative staff. They must be out of their minds. I hope the real story can come out about this matter. People need to know what's going on.

The state recommended a ladder truck years ago but were at that time content with having one in McAdenville to maintain the insurance rating. Now with so many taller buildings/homes in Cramerton, they are recommending Cramerton get one...which was spec'd out years ago and quotes gotten...but the town hedged. Now there is one truck that has to be replaced and another that will need to be replaced soon as parts can't be had for repairs. Even now, one needs repairs on the emergency lights. The hiring of paid staff (with town benefits, BTW) is the brainchild of the mayor and manager. The town promised years ago when the last truck was paid off to set aside money each year in anticipation of the now much-needed truck(s). However, they either didn't set aside the money or they spent it for other things.....or they simply put it away preparing for the now-in-progress takeover.

If they do takeover, the town doesn't get the trucks or equipment. They can't. The FD is independently incorporated...not affiliated with the town. When the contract lapses, the town gets NOTHING. The equipment can be sold at fair market value (but not to Cramerton according to the original contracts) or donated to a fire department in an unincorporated area like a community department. In other words, if the town doesn't like the current FD, they basically have to start over from scratch....and that's going to get really expensive really fast. All because someone doesn't like the firefighters?

There are a lot of rules that have to be adhered to regarding disposing of all the assets. AND the membership has to approve the dissolution of the corporation...not the board or the town.

The town council is simply a group of people intent on creating a authoritarian government....almost bordering on totalitarian. And Worley and Peoples are at the forefront.

No one wants to stand up to them and it's getting ready to cost the citizens a LOT.
