They need to make it a law that all schools need to teach the Operation LifeSaver program. It is provided by the Railroads. I heard at a meeting that the mother was trying to get it in the schools system in Gaston County and it was thrown out. It needs to be taught. I tried to get some of the principals to do it at some of the schools especially at Holbrook since it sits next to the tracks. I cant tell you how many times I have seen close calls from kids crossing the tracks. It is just not safe. It was a bad thing that happened, to blame the crew like one person did is just wrong. It is posted no trespassing. It is very hard on crew memebers that hit people on the tracks, They know they don't have a chance to stop to keep from hitting someone. Knowing that if they don't do it right they could derail the train hurting more than just one or even themselves. These workers have families and children, it terrifies them to hit anyone. Even if we cant get it into the school systems it is up to us as parents to make sure to teach our children how much danger there is by walking the tracks. Instead of blaming the crew of the train who did try to stop that day.

thank you for your post!! I am joshua's mother and i have deligently tried to have them to go into the schools to teach the dangers of being on the railroad tracks. At the time of Joshua's death, there were not any NO TRESPASSING signs posted at any of the working rr in Gaston county, which is another thing I has asked the rr company to please do in hopes of detering someone else, it has recently been taken care of. Please know that no one in our family places any blame on the crew of the train. we know and understand that they did everything that they could do. They are in our family's prayers on a regular basis, we can not imagine how hard they and thier families must have it trying to deal with a tragdy like this...If you know how to go about pushing this rr safty course into the schools please let me know! also in feb another student was killed crossing the rr tracks to go home from school in michigan just for your info...
