I think the new school is exciting and certainly needed. I'm concerned about the operational expenses after it is built. We can't fully staff and supply our schools now- how are we going to run another one? Where will those millions come from? The economy is not going to recover for years. Bad timing for a good idea.

Lottery money was designated for capital funds ( school buildings), scholarships and higher education (colleges). The local bond (175 million) is paying for construction. That will also mean taxes will go up to fund those bonds. Lottery money distribution was just changed this past General Assembly. Gaston County will actually get LESS than previously. No lottery money has gone to school staffing and operation. That takes local and state TAX money. Look for your taxes to rise dramatically over the next few years - both state and property. And, my point is - too many people struggling and out of work. We cannot afford any tax increases for a long time.
