What a inconsiderate way to describe other people's loved one. Mrs. Hammonds was a sweet lady who is just as valuable as any of us. You can tell the type of person she is by the nice children she raised.

Back to Rose Hammonds - I meant to say "she is a sweet lady" present tense. Maybe if someone would have offered her a ride that night, she may have returned home safely. No one wants to take the time to show others a little kindness. What has happened to us?

I would like to comment on the RPD. I would like to inform the officers that no matter what you do there will be criticism. If you make (1) person happy, you have made (5) angry. This not only applies to the RPD. Look at city council and what they are experiencing. In order for everyone to remain confident, they must become community minded. Officers should walk the streets, not just ride in their cruisers. The officers in the past are many of the reasons you are being "shunned". Make a comunity presence, not only when something is going wrong. A small town officer is more dfficult then large cities in (1) aspect, they have to set boundaries and be more lenient in certain situations due to the community feedback.

What Rose should have done, was go to the police dept. and asked to be taken home. She didnt know that they provide cab service. but Im sorry, that is just for certain people, such as Jim Fitzpatrick. I have never seen a police officer, just walking. They should make there presence seen in Foodland, Rite-Aid, Dollar Store. I see them a lot riding around, or parked somewhere on the cell phone. So they could be contacted if there was emergency, since they all have cell phones that the city pays for, so they could do some foot patrol, and save city gas. If I was the city council, I would check their cell phone bills to see if they were work related calls or personal calls. I bet we would all be suprised, on second thought, we probably wouldnt.

I believe that Richwood's having difficulty in handling police presence. In the past, the most officers have been lackluster in their duties. Officers Cogar and Hellwege have done a good job. One thing I would like to mention though. I believe that you should approach certain situations objectively. Don't assume that you can cruise around town and build support for the department. You must be active in the community to muster support. I have never seen this in the city. Writing tickets is part of the job, but there is much more.

I would like to make another suggestion. When was the last time an officer has volunteered to help community programs. I know time is limited, but I am sure that if an officer went to the pantry (1) day per week, it would be appreciated. Most crimes are solved by witnesses etc. If you are "approachable" then you build community support. Officers also need to practice "discretion" in cases. Please respond RPD.

I have never seen the police out in the public. I take that back, Morris is in the public at the depot. Must be a lot of business down there. Yes the magistrates office is in the same building, but there is no connecting doors, so when he goes into the depot, he has to come out the same door. The only other police I see is sitting in the vehicle talking on the cell phone or just driving around wasting gas. I think they should have foot patrol since it is getting pretty. That is just my thought.

you know i used to live in richwood and the only thing the cops now are doing is harrasing some of the good people of richwood and there are even one of the great police officers of richwood that likes to mess around with 16 and 17 year old girls i call that police officer a very sick man that needs to be put behind bars like the other people that do that

We may have good police officers, but they are way over their budget, they do not have enough money to carry them till July 1st. It is a real possibility that they will be laid off when the money is gone, They did that in Summersville, laid them off till the new budget started. The officers continue to spend, like the money is no problem, but soon they will find out.

Hey George, You need to go back to school and learn how to spell before you give worthless advice. I believe that all this will be solved when Richwood loses their charter and is unincorporated. I have no more comments to make in regards to the RPD.

I saw in the paper where the police dept. is just about out of money. Well, the Chief is an administrative position, and if he can't manage the money they need to hire someone who can or the city council needs to divy out so much a month to him so this lack of money for the dept. doesn't happen again. Richwood has had enough bad money management from Jeremy Rose and Baber, they don't need any more.
