It is NOT the Chamber's job to bring in new businesses and jobs, it's our local governments job to do so.

It's okay! She's that crazy, uneducated, crack ho from up at the Dolly Ann Apartments. She's all over these boards using different usernames trying to disguise herself from who knows? Just read all the comments she leaves back and forth with herself. Crazy is all I have to say! She needs to go see Dr. Goings and get her schitzo anti-psychotic shot!

LOL! I was just aswering what they claim to be about on their website. I did however read that they are non-profit which means no taxpayer monies should be involved.

It's my understanding that someone at the Chamber office is getting to big for her britches. Maybe it's time someone knock's her off her throne.

Government only creates government jobs. It is really up to the private sector to create jobs. Local governments are to provide law enforcement, education, and public roads. As long as the local business community continues to depend on government, they will always be disappointed and will ultimatley lose their own economic freedoms. In many communities the local business community works closely with local officals to promote business; in the Alleghany Highlands, many (not all) local business people expect things from local government that they cannot provide financially or in some cases, legally. It is my observation that the only time many local business people approach our elected leaders is to complain or ask for money; or sometimes force the development of nebulous local government restructuring plans that are doomed to failure from the word "go".

Talking about the Alleghany Foundation. Everything
about it is a big secret. As far as taking care of
the schools, check and see how much the Covington City Schools has received from this foundation Who
picks the members for this group. If you will note, at the present all members are from the county. So who do you think is going to get the money?

The Foundation is on the buddy system, just like everything else in Alleghany County. It's not what you know, but who you know. Many people in this area get on boards and commities, not to make a difference, but for the prestige. Take the Chamber office. It's all about power and rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. It has nothing to do with the improvement of Alleghany County. The only way things will ever change here is to run these power seeking people out of the county.

I seen yesterday that the Chamber got over two hundred thousand dollars from the Alleghany Foundation for tourism. What tourism? How much money did our schools get from them. Absolutly nothing. Think about it people.

How much taxpayer money was wasted on the new Chamber office? By the looks of it, too damn much. It's also for tourism. What Tourism? How many times can a person look at Humpback Bridge?

Member and curious both bring up some extremely valid points. I would hope that those who feel there are deficits in the way this community is run, are the first ones at the podium during council/supervisor meetings. Sounding off on an online board is a good way to get your opinion out there but don't just sing it, bring it and push for the improvements you feel so strongly about.

Well, I see I hit a nerve with the member. I would support any business in the area if we had one. But, I have to go to Roanoke, Lexington or Lewisburg to spend my money. I can remember back in the 60's and 70's when Alleghany County was booming. On Saturday's it was hard to find a parking spot on Main Street. But those days are long gone. I ask you member, what happened to those booming times and will they ever return? My guess is no. As far as my built up frustrations, I have none and I definatly don't need to go to a porno business to release them. That business will be history before we Know it. As far as a pot to pee in, I have three of them and all three are paid for. I just don't have the need to be in the limelight everytime I turn around like alot of people in this community.

Amen! Hell, you can go down to CF on the weekends and its booming more than this dead town. Main street is EMPTY!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head dls. She is one snooty b____h. She and her cronies at the Chamber are looking out for only number one. The hell with everyone else. They'll do just about anything to get the money and publicty they need, no matter who or what it hurt's.

It's time for the Chamber directer to go. She is not interested in helping the community. She is only interested in the publicity and the recognition she is getting from her job. Many people say she doesn't even have a heart. They say she will turn on you if you don't agree with her or kiss her butt. Is this the type of person we need running the Chamber? I don't think so.
