The Virginian Review is very quick to write negative editorials about the public officials in one locality, but never seems to fine anything wrong in the other. It also has the typical left-wing bias of most daily newspapers.

The Virginian Review has written all kinds of negative stuff about certain things, including consolidation. The editor of this paper is in the circle of good ol'boys that do not want Alleghany County to consolidate & move forward. He like the rest of the good ol' boys circle he is in ,want to live & stay in the past.

The editor of the Virginian Review needs to just keep quiet if he does want consolidation because people are going to debate and disagree during the talks. This does not necessarily mean they will no eventually come to some compromise. If hey publishes blistering acusations everytime there is debate he will damage the prospects of it passing. Consolidation will not fix our economic woes in the Alleghany Highlands because the causes are much more deep seated than the number or type of local governments. It may save a few bucks if we don't use it as an excuse to go on a spending spree post-consolidation. We really need to have that conversation about attitude, skill level and education level that the consolidation issue always seems to ignore. The good ole boys have got to let it go.

They seem very conservative to me...in terms of politics. But this is a conservative county...

I'm just an average tax-paying and voting citizen. At this time I recognize many pros and cons of consolidation, but I don't like suprises. I am monitoring the talks carefully, but I would like to hear more from folks who oppose the idea. It seems like most of what I see or read is heavily in favor of it and I am not sure if that is because the majority is in favor of it or if it is because the citizens group has forced people to work on it and that forced effort is what we are hearing about.

Selective "righteous indignation"...That's the age old play by the liberals and this newspaper. They decide what's righteous, they decide what's indignant, and they decide who's the target.
