I think that two years is a little extreme don't you? I mean, come on the man did not kill anyone!!! He treated everyone of us in Abita with respect. He did everything he could to keep us safe and he provided for us anytime we needed help. He is a very good man. When we needed him he was always right there for us, now it looks like he needs us... and where are we? There are murders who get less than that. And some call that justice? Well i disagree 100%.

As a law enforcement officer myself, I think that his actions were proof of his selfishness and lack of consideration for the people he was supposed to serve. The man has been convicted of two felonies, both of which are basically undermining public faith in the office in which he served. Not only this, but in the jail, he recieved EXTREME preferential treatment, and upon speaking with him, he expressed his disbelief in having to serve jail time and showed absolutely NO remorse for the crimes he committed. Two years is not even remotely enough time.

When we ask for the public trust, what comes with that is the knowledge that breaking that trusts hurts every law enforcement officer in the world. No one hates a dirty cop more than the clean ones. When uyou abuse you oath of office, you place yourself above those we are sworn to serve. 2 years seems about right for the crime, but he should never wear a badge again.

He should have gotten 5 years just like Takis Kondylis recieved. James Lala was just as dirty if not dirtier and recieved less because he "cooperated" with authorities. He did what just about every person would do when facing a significant amount of time but dont believe for a second he was not just as dirty.

I worked in the jail, he was treated like a king. The sheriff gave him anything he wanted.

The Sheriff was the leader of the gang he later hired or allowed some of them to be hired on the Sheriff Dept.

Damn shame I know James Lala very well from when he first started working on the department till he made SGT. Chief was Jack Strain aka booboo, and only had two other officers working their, Ronald and Charlie Green. To see James make Chief is great and I'm sure a lot of people including Jack Strain were very happy and proud. But to see what all has happened and fell I'm sure a lot of people including Jack Strain are very disappointed.

Julie, I hear what you are saying, BUT the picture you are missing is James is and was the Chief of Police, he of all people should be setting the right example for all to follow period. James had other officers under him plus he is the elected Chief for the city of Abita Springs. What he did is basically theft and fraud. As the main person elected in a trusted position and you abuse it period.... 2yrs he should be thankful for just that... and I know and like James.
