I hear that Westville High school once again has players who were caught at a drinking party. It will be interesting to see what happens since they play Salt Fork this Friday. I was told their entire offensive line was there. I guess the kids just follow their role models.

It was a party, some kids chose to bring beer, some were even over 21, that doesn't make it a "drinking party". Not all of the kids that are suspended from football were drinking, they were suspended because they were at the party and there were other people there that were drinking!

And they shouldn't have been at the party where underage people were drinking. Duh!!! I hope you're not one of the parents that think this type of thing is ok

Westville mom I hope it is just a rumor. Our boys are looking forward to a good game of football. But since the headline reads Westville Football caught drinking again. It appears there must be some truth to it.
Best of luck !!

If beer was there and they chose to stay; it was their choice. They know the rules and chose to take a chance of not getting caught. They got caught and neither they nor their parents should complain about having to follow the rules and consequences. It is a shame, but their poor decision and they will pay the price.

No one is complaining. Some people are just attempting to make the story more interesting than what it was. Just because they were there, doesn't mean that they were drinking.

But they were there. That's the whole story and I believe that they shouldn't have been. It's been a problem in Westville as well as other schools in the past and they need to crack down on these kids.

It's a shame that people try to defend the kids actions. Especially when the students know the rules and expectations that are set forth. The owners of the premises should be held accountable as well. This isn't the first party that has occured there. There were frequent parties throughout the summer, the neighbors finally got fed up with the underage drinking that was occuring there. Parents who allow there children to continue to recklessly in this matter won't wise up until a tradgedy occurs. They should be trying to prevent a tragedy, not assisting one to occur. Parents in this town need to stand up and say enough is enough.

Well you all do not know the story here maybe you should. I know these people and the parents were home and in bed when this took place. The son had friends over and it was not a drinking party. The 5 kids over 21 showed up and brought the beer. Out of the nine football players there 5 did not have a drop of booze. The owner of the house asked the older kids to leave but by then the cops had been called and the rest where guilty by association.

As someone who interacts with the student body, I find it very hard to believe that some people are being nieve about this and even attempting to justify any actions taken by the players. The person who held the party was on the football team, and in fact is one of the four who is suspended. Even though some may have claimed not to drink, the rules and consequences are pretty black and white when it comes to alcohol in the presense of players. Do I feel bad for the kids because they are suspended, no because this is not the first time that this has happened. Do I feel bad for the kids because there honestly are people out there trying to justify the situation and act like there isnt a problem, yes. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in most cases.

And then my next question would be, why are young adults over 21 even hanging around with kids in high school???

Kids drinking = bad choice
Kids hanging with other friends and alcohol shows up maybe you stay, maybe you don't. I commend the kids that chose NOT to drink. That said, rules are rules. Every kid there knew the rules & chose to stay. It's a shame that they would lower themselves and stay.

Remember everyone, you were once young & stupid. Maybe you didn't go to this extent but you were stupid. Kids make bad choices, fortunately, Westville unlike other places hit these kids hard. Thanks to the principal that acted quickly to question the kids and find out the ones that "ran". Thanks Principal (also head coach) for doing an outstanding job, even when it hurts so bad you can taste it.

I myself am going to miss the "Game of the Year" this Friday due to this and it sucks. What a game it would be. Good Luck Tigers & Storm regardless.

You claim there were 9 football players there(and you seem to claim knowledge of the entire situation). The coach is only suspending 5 of the players. The Westville Code of Conduct is quite clear that all nine should be suspended from playing, for being at a party in which alcohol was present. The players know the rules.

What's the deal here is the coach playing favorites or picking and choosing who he can afford to suspend and still win games. I guess though when alcohol plays a significant part in your life you don't really need to look at whats fair. I find it ironic that the coach is also the principal in this situation. Maybe it's time parents stand up to this situation involve the superintendent and the board of education.
