I hope the SGV Tribune keeps reporting on this story. I'm curious to see if this man will be vindicated.

Hi Loolie!!!
It just goes to show you that being a teacher has become one of the most dangerous (and underpaid) professions nowadays.

What an effing joke. Obviously this teacher was kidding and this family is trying to make a quick buck. I say when this all blows over that the teacher should get the chance to strangle this boy's parents for ruining his life and reputation.

It would appear a case of bad judgement on the part of the teacher, and yes the family turning it around to make a quick buck. The boy it appears was "goofing around", but goofing around with power equipment has serious consequences. Obviously there are rules to follow, and students that age make conscious decisions to not follow them, and while aware of the consequences do not care. Unfortunately one of the consequences could have been the loss of a finger, arm or other injury, and who would get blamed? Of course the teacher who had poor supervision and allowed this to happen. Perhaps the teacher had poor class mgmt. skills. He maybe should look at this experience as a blessing regardless of what happens and look for another job. Or he could change management styles and hope for the best. As far as the student goes, in his mindset "he won" the contest for being the class clown, and getting the teacher in trouble while he walks. To this I say to his parents (as well as the student himself), "Have a nice life", as this kid will grow up worse in all this and become a further problem to his parents and society because of the reinforcement to unacceptable behavior in school. By the way he was lucky in the "consequence" administered, it could have been the bodily harmed mentioned earlier.

You know nothing about high schools and teenagers to say something like this. Typical high school classes in California are at 38. You try controlling every movement of 38 wild teenagers that are all using dangerous equipment. I'm sure everyone would say you have poor supervision as well.

let that happen to your kid , then i would like to hear you guys say that it was your kids fault and the teacher was right to that . grrr if you say you know that teacher , why did you not know what school this happened at . even if the kid was messing around ,that does not give the teacher the right to do that - even if he was playing around . if the teacher cant handle a kid send him to the office . the counselor is better trained to handle and punish the kids . as for the parents looking for a pay day , they did not ask ( a professional - trained - grown man ) the teacher to wrap a cord around a 14 year old kids neck .

We need more of this in the schools. Bring back corporal punishment in the schools!!! Oh and if this was my kid I would not be so quick to defend him like every parent out there is. Kids are lying little bastards and almost always lie to get out of trouble.

If only you parented 2000 children, all of us educators would have easy lives. Bad parents make my job harder than you could imagine! You don't have to beat them necessarily but give them some consequences and don't believe every dumb thing they say!

If you only knew who I was.... That's the beauty of anonymity. Please get your balls cut off because you are too clueless to raise teenagers.

if kids are little bastards you don't have one its the mailman's . back in the 70's and early 80's when they had corporal punishment it was up-to the principal with a swat on the a**, not a shop teacher wrapping a cord around a kids neck . maybe that happened to you and chocked you out a little to long . that would explain your comment

You obviously spent too much time whacking off in class...that would explain your grammar and spelling.

The beauty of anonymity ? That takes balls ! I do have kids and if they have to be checked I do it , not some punk shop teacher . A grown man wrapping a cord around a 14 year old kid that real good punishment , that's a lot better then sending him to his counselor office . With your comments I'm sure you have been teacher of the year at least a few times
