I attended this festival, and it was wonderful. I'm
looking for any local news articles or reviews of the party as a whole. It was a memorable time for me, but
with the motor cycle club members as fence guards, it
was a horror show for people trying to sneak in the fence.

I played at that party with DIONYSOS from Quebec, peoples enjoyed our playing Allman Brothersin the middle of the night. Unfortunately, bikers blew it up with shotguns. We left at dawn back to Canada, got busted on our way back and never got paid. The good times years.

There were two , never a Mac's party 3 ,after I heard six people shot by "security" after they lost battle with crowd at Mac's party 2 . I went to both , Canada's April Wine played ,#2 I think . First became free concert almost from beginning , second "security" kept crowd out on Friday , but not on Saturday . More people outside than in , when fences came down shooting started . The crowd rushed in and April Wine played . That's how I remember it , hope nobody was seriously hurt , never heard . Wow the 70's .

i was at mac's party 1973. i was camped near the fence at the far end near all of the vendor stands. i witnessed most of the mayhem and it needs serious clarification! there were devils disciples and hells angel in attendance but neither were security. this was'nt Altamont! security was made up of a bunch of people that showed up a few days early they were given tee shirts that had pigs dressed in police uniforms holding billy clubs that read Macs Mob! they stood behind the fences holding baseball bats, golf clubs etc. i saw one with a stick that had barbed wire wrapped around it. there were quite a few devils disciples camped right near us and the fence. everyone was cool and both clubs in attendance(hells angels) were partying together. at some point on the afternoon of the 2nd day we saw a kid try to sneak over the fence. Macs Mob beat the hell out of him while we yelled at them to leave the poor kid alone. the devils disciples witnessed this as well and responded by approaching the fence with a sawed off shotgun loaded with rocksalt and let Macs Mob have both barrels below the waist. the bands stopped shortly after and the rest of the show as cancelled. people responded by tearing down the entire fence, the stage and the vendors booths.i remember i bought a whole case of some koolaid type drink from one of the vendors for 2 bucks! lol people started carrying the wooden debris up the road to the top of the hill where we had a huge bonfire! as i recall i saw April wine,Mahogany Rush and Magoo on the first nite.

This was one of the turning points in my life .I arrived at this "party " with some friends from Windsor , Vt . We were young and happy , loved to go to see live music , and meet new friends .
By the time we settled in and the bands started to play it was obviously going to be a good time .
Then everything changed , what little I remember were people crashing the fence and security came down with a vengeance. I have these images in my head that have been tucked away since then . Men with shotguns , baseball bats , kicking, shooting, and beating on people as they were pushing the fence to the ground .
I was a witness to something I had never imagined could happen at a music concert .
As Don Maclean wrote in his song American Pie , for me , this was the day the music died ..

My band WARPIG from Canada played Mac's Party, unveiling our new MiniMoog and playing songs from our upcoming album #2.....we were rushed offsite as soon as we finished our set, being told there was gunfire erupting and that we would be in danger if we stayed. April Wine followed us, but we did not get to see their set..

I attended Macs Party specifically to see DRB. Jimbo Watson from Clinton hauled all the gear in his Chevy pick up for DRB. He was able to park the truck stage right and that is where the Clinton and Lancaster Mass gang gathered. I hitched up with friend Ros and Johanna. When we got there it was chaos at the gate. There was a dude from Clinton on security detail walking around bare ass with boots and a belt with a machete. He let us thru. There was a wild fight mid set in the middle of the set. Rain followed we left, but the music was solid. It was a great ideas that went a bit off the rails
I have often heard that Bob Margolin was a guitarist for DRB, was he? Was David Brennan still with DRB then? Steve on Sax. DRB had a big sound for North Central Mass. Beer for Breakfast would follow, along with Johnny G and the Boys in Trouble. It was a great time for great music and Mac did his part.

Mac's Party was a total wild experience! Everything was happening. I will never forget all of the signs "'THC $1.50 a hit", etc... The Hell's Angels and the Superhogs were there. I found myself in the Northland Journal photo. Strange looking at myself in this photo, when I was 17 years old.

Only the best of memories!
