It has come to my attention by several RRES students and parents that the children are having to write lines and behavior paragraphs as punishment. Does this not take away from their learning time? A class as a whole should not be punished for only a handful of the children not following rules. The teachers want better students, but I think surely they could find a better method that does not take away from their educational learning. They have so much they have to learn. Are there other parents that have had this issue?

What would you suggest they do? They can no longer spank or discipline the child in that manner its child abuse. Having the child miss recess is considered wrong, having students do punishments such as picking up trash is unacceptable. So how should they punish. When I was in elementary school if you were in trouble you wrote linear during recess. And beloved me you didn't want to miss recess, so the next time you behaved better. But then again I had a parent disciplining me at home and teaching me what was right and wrong...And let's face it thats a rarity now days

Another thought, isn't the whole class losing educational time if there are disruptive students interfering with learning time? But I guess that's okay, we should just ask them to behave properly and expect that to work. Yea, sure because elementary students are so understanding, and and cooperative.

I would think that lines during recess time was better than lines during teaching time. I think there are too many of our teachers that do not set the rules and stick to them firmly. I know several teachers that are this way and the kids are very receptive to it. I am not saying that you have to be mean to these children, but firm. Many of them get enough "mean" at home.
