One of the things I learned through all of this is that septic systems dont remove nitrates, so as our population grows and the density gets greater, were more apt to have these problems continuing. Chet Ross, President, Freeland Chamber of Commerce.
As a person who continually faces nitrate problems, as a factor of my aquarium hobbies, I can factually attest removal of nitrates from the effluent discharge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant is a extremely difficult and costly process, particularly in areas where biological nitrification processes are dramatically reduced as a factor of cold weather.
I am not saying something should not be done about nitrate pollution in our wastewater. But we all need to know all of the facts and figures BEFORE attempting a project of this expense and magnitude and not find out it dont work as expected after the fact.
Honestly I don't think effective nitrification can be done at this scale for fifteen million dollars.
