What exactly is the story behind the "bubbleheads" on Old Jamestown? I know it's basically just a Florissant legend, I was just wondering if anyone knew them or anything or had any information??

i believe it it said to be down carrico past the gates.

to my understanding the legend has been around for 40-50 years. I was once told that it was a misunderstanding from actually a different location. Apparently it was around the boys home in by fort bellefountain. there was a home there where there were some kids with that disease where you aged really quickly and as a result they had really small figures but big heads. people back then not being aware of such a disease stumbling across these kids and getting freaked out and chased off by security. the story i heard is that a number of kids were placed together in a home because back in those days when you had a child with a handicap or something you didn't keep it and raise it they were sent to special places. I have no idea the validity of this story this is just something i heard once. but im sure everyone has their own story,

A Google search returns some pretty interesting results. Bubblehead Road is urban legend:

"A secluded street in unincorporated north St. Louis county, official name is Carrico Road.
Urban legend states something to the effect that years ago, people settled near the end of the road. Through years of inbreeding, the descendants of the original settlers developed hydrocephaly, or "Water on the Brain," which caused their heads to be oversized, hence the term "bubblehead."

Yeah, I thought it was more "water on the brain" and I have heard about the inbreeding. There never used to be a gate on that property, since it became property of I think St. Louis County, there has been a gated entrance.

I remember in high school in the 80's we used to go down there and a couple of the guys got out of the car and walked up to the house ...a lady chased them off with a shot guy. Then in the early 90's, hubby and I and another couple were reliving our youth and drove down there and there was a car on top of a hill with a drive that turned it's lights on and started chasing us out of the neighborhood. It followed us all the way to Herman's Farm (when it was there) and finally turned around. Really freaked us out LOL.

The old roads were/are quite popular with kids. There's a few places back where you can "catch air" if you're going fast enough. Cheap thrill. But the roads are very dangerous at those speeds, and it's easy to lose control. There was a death out there several years ago, but I lack the details.

The death out there involved students from McCluer High School. I think it was around 1996. I wish I could recall the details.

Former county parks department caretaker at bissell confirmed haunted status of the building, especially a second floor bedroom.

Figures have also been seen in the windows.

Perhaps general bissell decided his summer home was too beautiful to leave but of course the one in the city is even more haunted.

Glen echo country club-second floor especially in area of bathrooms.

I think there were four Hazelwood Central students who died in a car crash on Old Jamestown by hitting a tree around 1979 or 80. I remember people driving past the site to see the damage to the tree.

Yeah that was in November of 1997. There were some kids that were involved with the hockey club there. North County Rec was nearby.

There was a girl from Riverview Gardens killed in a car accident on Coal Banks Road, around 1981-1982. I think her last name was Hacker.

Did anyone hear about the four students that a religion teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas knew (Miss Jordan)? They took a Ouija board out to Sioux Passage Park and played with it in a clearing and it started spelling things and then there was a "creature" with red eyes that appeared on the perimeters of the woods?
The students in question experienced a variety of demonic phenomena until they went back and BURNED the Ouija Board, again, the Red Eye Guy appeared and didn't seem happy about it.
Anybody?

carrico used to go though all the way through to castelreigh didn't it? it fence was just a separation to keep unwanted traffic looping around for a joy ride. there are a few house behind on the carrico side and if you go though castelreigh it goes to gravel when it turned into carrico, it doesn't appear these roads connect anymore, looks like it is all overgrown.
