The City sponsors an annual Christmas Party for its employees every year. The employees can attend for free, spouses pay $20. A point could be made that the City should not be spending money in this manner during these economic times, but the goodwill gesture is understood. However, the goodwill doesn't seem to be there this year.
The Mayor has opened this up to include Oak Fest personnel. These people have their own party in the summer to celebrate all their hard work, paid for with Oak Fest Funds.
The Mayor has also included the park district personnel, who also have their own separate celebration. As well as the Acorn Library personnel.
The employees have been told that space is limited. Of course it is with all these other organizations taking seats. This has morphed into a political gathering rather than the "thank you" from the City to the employees that it was intended to be and was under previous administrations.
Going out with a bang, Mr. Mayor?

all one big happy family ! The more the merrier! The economy has forced Most companies have eliminate holiday parties yet Hank expands the municipal holiday party- at the taxpayers expense. Can we afford this?? Now how does this make sense ?? Hoping to influence a few registered voters ?? He has influenced me but not to his advantage.

The oak fest committee is a volunteer group, not employees. Are all volunteer groups going to be included? Where do you draw the line??? Hank spends taxpayer money like its his own.

Yes, it's always nice to be festive this time of year, throw some money around and take care of people. But not with taxpayers money. That's a 365 day 24/7 job. The idiots at the helm don't get it. Then they have the audacity to pick and choose and no doubt there will be cronies included. That's what tis board does. They take care of their own.

I don't know anything about this party or the mayor, but the crappy little party doesn't even cost you $.01 in property taxes. Get over it.

So who is footing the bill for the employees? Oh wait, you're right, there will be no room for employees because everyone else and their brother is on the guest list.

IF its being paid for by the City it does cost us. Regardless of where it comes from. Get back on your bike and be freaky fast.

Why are you bringing the "board" into this? Did you hear them vote on this? Put this on the doorstep of the mayor with his former mayor/present secretary. Everyone knows how much Hank likes to schmooze.

I can only guess how many times he'll say "best day of my life" at the party!

The board votes on city money spent, unless its Hanks slush fund otherwise known as an expense account . But I don't think this is the case.

Of course, not being an insider, "just sayin", I have no way of knowing whether Gaelic donates the party or not. I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. If you want to say they donate the rental of the room, I would probably accept that, especially if it is held on a week night, but don't think they are throwing in food with that. Why would they?

While the cost of the party is a big issue, there is also the fact that this is SUPPOSED to be a "Thank You" to the employees, not a political rally. If he wants to have a political rally, he can do it another time.

No way does Gaelic donate the entire thing. It being questioned shows how the council has failed the people of O.F. There is no trust in our elected officials. If Hank has the city pay for his landscaping, what is next?

Seriously Gaelic Park donates the City Christmas party every year, and have been doing so as long as it had been there. I beleive I was there about 15-years ago for a commission I was on. All city bills are public record. You can look at each month and see if there is a paid invoice to Gaelic Park. This is another example of lies on this blog when the facts can easily be checked out.
