If he were alive today.

What do you think he would say about the state of the Black community?

If he was asked if blacks as a whole have put to good use the rights he has helped them achieve.

How would he respond?

I think he would be greatly disappointed that the black community has not taken advantage of the opportunities available to them.

the nation's worst acts of racial violence, the Tulsa Race Riot, occurred there on June 1, 1921, when 35 square blocks of homes and businesses were torched by mobs of angry whites.

The riot began because of an alleged and likely fabricated assault of a white woman, Sarah Page, by an African American man, Dick Rowland. The Tulsa Tribune got word of the incident and chose to publish the story in the paper on May 31, 1921. Shortly after the newspaper article surfaced, there was news that a white lynch mob was going to take matters into its own hands and kill Dick Rowland.[7]

African American men began to arm themselves and join forces in order to protect Dick Rowland. Subsequently, white men armed themselves and confronted the group of African American men. There was an argument in which a white man tried to take a gun from a black man, and the gun fired a bullet up into the sky. This incident promoted many others to fire their guns, and the violence erupted on the evening of May 31, 1921. Whites flooded into the Greenwood district and destroyed the businesses and homes of African American residents. No one was exempt to the violence of the white mobs; men, women, and even children were killed by the mobs. In an effort to completely destroy the Greenwood District of Tulsa, firemen were held at gunpoint by whites making it impossible to put out the flames.

Troops were eventually deployed on the afternoon of June 1, but by that time there was not much left of the once thriving Greenwood district. Over 600 successful businesses were lost. Among these were 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half-dozen private airplanes and even a bus system. Note - It was a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, yet six blacks owned their own planes.

It was suspected by many blacks that the entire thing was planned because many white men, women and children stood on the borders of the city and watched as blacks were shot, burned and lynched. In addition some of the black owned airplanes were stolen by the white mob and used to throw cocktail bombs & dynamite sticks from the sky.[12] Property damage totaled $1.5 million (1921).[12] Although the official death toll claimed that 26 blacks and 13 whites died during the fighting, most estimates are considerably higher. At the time of the riot, the American Red Cross estimated that over 300 persons were killed. The Red Cross also listed 8,624 persons in need of assistance, in excess of 1,000 homes and businesses destroyed, and the delivery of several stillborn infants.[7]

so in other words before dr. king was even born blacks were very sucessful in had their own things. European Americans typically have used propaganda and then violence to destroy the self sufficient and successful black city. You never hear about this out in public but the same ol black community is failing gets heavy rotation. when it was successful it was destroyed so..my question is who really wants to see a successful black community. where was these trillions of dollars to rebuild these black cities because it was more than ONE. what about taking the policy/lottery from black folks in chicago another successful business and making it the state lottery the same game the same rules...it was illegal when blacks was on top of it though. KILL URSELF because u don't know what the hell ur talking about

Are you seriously blaming something that happened in 1921 as a reason for the problems in the black community? That's the stupidist this I have ever heard.

its called a timeline. they were wealthy during the great depression era... they destroyed an infrastructure of black success..it was a self sustaining system and the united states military with the kkk that joined in also. tell an ex-millionaire that has been reduced to nothing 30 years later...oh don't blame what happened to you 30 years ago for ur failures.

You are a piece of shyt. those people had families and grandchildren. Oh and if some of them need assistance today..lets not acknowledge the destruction of their families wealth by our country...lets give them a class and tell them they should be greatful.

so when people say what happened...lets acknowledge it all.

so between slavery and today...this was a very sucessful, prideful time of blacks all over the country. They don't tell this story so people asked what happened...this is what happened. Blacks were lynched and ran away and left so much land they've owned in fear for their lives and caused them to run to the big cities up north. There is a pattern everytime black folks in this country find a way to success there is a systemic approach to destroying it. thats what the records and history has shown that is not my opinion. And not all blacks were enslaved there were over 200,000 free and wealthy blacks in the south during slavery.

Its simple its called genocide...whats wrong with people who have been forced into a system that systematically has shown it will kill them...]

tuskegee experiments..come on now. i hear u coming..oh we're not going to blame people who don't trust doctors on what happened a long time ago.

How many millions of immigrants arrived.pennyless to this country long after 1921 and have had more success then black counterparts.
It is well known the the mexicans, many who have just gotten here within the last 20 years now have more spending power then blacks.
Shorter timeline and a language barrier to boot.
exactly thanks for proving my point.

This happened in not one but many black cities.

Besides that they keep their money in their communities. Their dollar circulates more in their communities... their own beer, food, clothes, and god if they had their own automobiles they'd probably make it the most successful line of cars too..also asians do the same thing and jews and many other nationalities. This is thru coercion and duress..when u force a people into a position to make others rich or to shop from other people you get what blacks have been going through.

blacks wanted to segregate from whites during the civil rights era. and before in the 1920's and 30's

If u want a real history of what happened look up marcus garvey, noble drew ali, elijah muhammad, black panthers..now u can't keep saying 100 years ago. All of these movements were about independence and building our own stuff...Who wanted to see that though?????

All of these were the most powerful black movements in the country and the FBI has records of them sabotaging and infiltrating these groups. The FBI with Hoover is quoting saying he is to prevent the rise of a black messiah. They DO NOT want blacks to be independent or with political or economic power.

The NAACP and "Non-Economic Liberalism"

"Non-economic liberalism" was a philosophy developed by the longtime white Jewish president of the NAACP, Joel Spingarn, for Black people's social and political advancement without economic empowerment.

^^^^^without economic empowerment...why NOT

"It took fifty years of pressure at close quarters from these so-called Jews to finally tame Du Bois and make him change 'Jew' to 'foreigner' and 'immigrant'." in the 1952 edition of his book, thus concealing the Jewish presence in the post-slavery Southern economy."

Finalcall.com

Non-economic liberalism" was the philosophy guiding the activities of the early NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), which sought the social acceptance of Blacks instead of building our own business economy. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad warned Black people that Whites would never teach us "the science of business," so "non-economic liberalism" was a philosophy developed by the longtime white Jewish president of the NAACP, Joel Spingarn, for Black people's social and political advancement without economic empowerment.

This philosophy was in direct contrast to the economic and political empowerment goals of the Niagara Movement, which was supplanted by the historians write about the NAACP , they make you think that it was the direct outgrowth of the Niagara Movement, which was secretly started by 29 Black men, who stated in their 1905 Declaration of Principles that they "especially complain against the denial of equal opportunities to us in economic life; in the rural districts of the South this amounts to peonage and virtual slavery; all over the South it tends to crush labor and small business enterprises..." These Black men demonstrated that Black people in the South strove toward The Honorable Elijah Muhammad's brand of economic independence. In fact, by 1910 Black people had acquired over 16 million acres of land, mostly in the South, but Black landownership steadily declined after the advent of the NAACP, as this organization made the northern cities safer for Black people, thus facilitating the Great Migration(s) out of the South.

Thats okay because when you are exclusively buying from foreigners you can see what we were going thru for the longest.

Its okay for blacks to be presidents, mayors, politicians but the MOMENT you think you are about to become an economic powerhouse all hell breaks loose.

the moment we want independence the shyt hits the fans. people start dying...etc

heard about powerful black men trying to buy the shares in ford auto. that would have made ford a black automobile company.

However those same powerful black men had the weirdes luck after that deal went through.

those black men were oj simpson, michael jordan, bill cosby, johnny cochran all somebody else

bill cosby son mysteriouly got killed
michael jordans father got killed.
oj simpson was on trial for murder and johnny cochran died from cancer...

oprah, jordan, rap artist, athletes..but no economic empowerment...HMMMMM i wonder why that is.

of course u don't have to wonder thats been the plan the entire time.

if u call us african americans we can call whites european americans...

And if its factual than so be it. i never hear people of irish descent taking offense to calling them irish.

American means copper colored aboriginals. And if ur not a copper colored aboriginal than by the original definition u can not be an american. No more than i could go to europe and become a european or asia and become an asian. europa is an african princess anyways so maybe that could apply. But still...

Go ahead and blame something that happened a LONG time ago if it makes you feel better. However, that has NOTHING to do with the problems in the black community. None of that has anything to do with the high school dropout rates for blacks, the number of kids with non-existent dads, lack of blacks with college degrees, etc.

A stable family and an education are two of the most important things a child needs for future success and those are two of the biggest problems in the black community.

The fact is, nobody is going to help yourself. A proud person doesn't make excuses, when they get knocked down they come back and fight harder. Nobody wants to help somebody who insists on making themselves a "victim".

u have a point. when there was a future after college blacks did pretty well in schooling. it was heavily promoted before the gangster image was. the movies the talk shows the sitcomes etc...

The is a victim ciriculum imposed on black folks.

I always tell others get or listen to the interview called they were white and they were slaves..it was a book about the first slaves were from britain and ireland.
