Let's put the blame where it belongs on low test scores THE KIDS. There are several types of kids those who care, those that don't, those who thinks everything should be handed to them and DDE has all those types. All you hear about is not making AYP or the low scores, once in a while the good scores tc needs to be told.
Holmes needs to step down from the school board. Yup board members families get jobs even if there isnt one for them they create them. But i guess that may go on in any district. People are afraid if people on the school board. They think they are high and mighty.
There is another contract up in June and the people on it dont even make a decent living wage. Eveyone on the contract can get food stamps etc. Does the school board care NO, when giving out raises they care more about what the people in the towns would say. Their raises usually dont cover the increase in taxes, medical insurance, deductables etc. So they loose money. NOt fair at all.
Yes the school board needs change

I guess the situation with the DUI isn't sad enough to get the parents involved, as usual.

Fate of Robbins' Top Cop Decided Tonight
Johnny Holmes, the Village of Robbins' police chief and a District 218 board member, was suspended in December after he was charged with DUI.
The future for the Village of Robbins' top cop hangs on the outcome of a closed-door meeting set to take place tonight.
Mayor Irene Brodie and board members will meet in a special closed meeting at 5:30 p.m. to make a definitive determination on Johnny Holmes status as the village police chief, who was charged with DUI in December.
Holmes, 66, has been suspended since Dec. 26 after village officials found out about his arrest earlier in the month, said village Administrator Napoleon Haney.
Currently, Holmes is a member on the Community High School Dist. 218 school board, that includes H. L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, and Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights.
Police stopped Holmes in Midlothian at around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 22, after he reportedly cut off another driver, according to reports. Holmes had a flask of liquor in his pocket and a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit. The Robbins police chief failed field sobriety tests and was charged with two counts of DUI.
This is the second time Holmes has been arrested for DUI. The first incident happened in March 2010, also in Midlothian, where Holmes allegedly pulled into oncoming traffic. Holmes was suspended with pay after that first arrest while his case was under review and was given a verbal warning by Robbins trustees.
Haney said the village has no official comment on Holmes or his charges yet. A statement regarding his job in the Robbins Police Department will be released Friday.

I sure hope they let him go. He needs help just not another verbal warning. What if he was needed that night he wouldnt of been able to do his job.
Let him retire.
Next up the CHSD218 school board then. Get him off that too!!!

How many times has he actually been pulled over and let go?

Anyone know why 218 board member Pratl resigned within a very short time of being re-elected? The board had two qualified candidates for this seat, however chose not to replace Pratl until the election in April of 2013. Does this board have something major to hide that they did not want a new member to get wind of? Have they been able to cover their tracks by now? Sub District #6 was cheated, all because of these board members shadiness. After all, only these six know what goes on in closed sessions and probably did not want a seventh sitting in on their wrongful payouts, connected contracts and hiring practices of unqualified convicted friends and relatives all at the cost of the tax payers.

I am sure the school board has lots to hide. Their reaction to Holmes DUI is a wait and see attitude. He isnt setting a good example for the kids and they say he wants too.
Most of the board have no clue what goes on in a classroom or jobs in the district same go for some admin that never been in a classroom but think they know best becasue they read a book.
Waiting to har what happened at the meeting tonight/

He is lucky he did'nt kill someone?

Now he must resign his seat on the board of CHSD218. Horrible influence on our teens to hold such a position.

How many DUI arrests was he part of? Hypocrite Bastard.

Robbins Police Chief Charged with DUI Abruptly Retires
Johnny Holmes, a Dist. 218 board member, is facing his second DUI charge in three years.
A District 218 school board member has retired from his job as a south suburban police chief following his recent arrest for drunken driving.
Johnny Holmes announced his retirement, effective Friday, after a Thursday night Village of Robbins meeting meant to determine his future with the municipality, according to a media release.
He is currently serving his third term as a member of Community High School Dist. 218 school board, which includes H.L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn and Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights.
Holmes departure as the villages top cop comes on the heels of a Dec. 22 arrest. He is charged with driving under the influence, his second such charge in three years.

The village released an official statement from Holmes:
I am proud and feel privileged to have served the Village of Robbins and its police department for 33 years. I consider my retirement as starting a new life for myself and my family. May God bless the Village of Robbins and my continued efforts towards becoming a better person. Thank you Village of Robbins for allowing me to serve.
Holmes had served as police chief in Robbins for 21 years.
"Chief Holmes was able to maintain the integrity and credibility of the police department by reducing crime and by holding his officers accountable for the service they provided to the community," the release from the village's administration states.
Holmes was suspended a few days after his arrest, said village Administrator Napoleon Haney.
Officers pulled over Holmes at around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 in Midlothian, according to reports. His blood-alcohol content was reportedly more than twice the legal limit.
Holmes first arrest for DUI came in March 2010, also in Midlothian. He was suspended without pay from his job in Robbins after that incident and, later, received a verbal warning from the village trustees.

Editorial: High time to step aside

Every student knows you dont ignore a note from the principal.
So we hope two school board presidents with felony backgrounds will pay attention to letters from authorities saying its time to step down.
In one case nine years after the Illinois attorney general went after a Harvey school board member and teacher for felony theft and state benefits fraud that same person, Janet Rogers, is today president of the Harvey School District 152 board.
In the other case, Kenneth Williams remains president of the Thornton Township High School District 201 board even though he was convicted of forgery in 1985.
They dont belong in those jobs. Last May, an Illinois appellate court ruled that felons cant sit on school boards.
On Friday, the Illinois attorney generals office sent Rogers a letter saying she needs to step down. According to the letter,[A]n individual convicted of an infamous crime is thereafter prohibited from holding public office of any school district absent pardon or other provision of law. The letter says Rogers must resign by Jan. 18 or the attorney general will file a suit seeking her removal.
Last month, the Cook County states attorneys office which shares legal authority in this area of the law sent Williams a similar letter demanding he resign by Jan. 15.
In 2002, Rogers then named Janet Thompson was convicted of felony theft and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, fined $7,000 and ordered to pay $10,000. At the time, the convictions cost her a Harvey school board seat, but she later was re-elected to the board.
Rogers attorneys argue she has a legal right to be school board president.
But neither she nor Williams does.
Both of them betrayed the public trust and do not belong on school boards. They have the letters. Lets hope they also get the message.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
JANUARY 14, 2013
10701 S. Kilpatrick
#77 Jan 15, 2013
There should be no question of this man's resignation. This is not a question of what Mr. Holmes can do for District 218, it is more like what the Taxpayers of District 218 can do for Mr. Holmes! What is wrong with this Board? Why are they making excuses for this bad behavior? Something is terribly wrong with this whole situation, are they covering up for each other?
Not one of these board members have publicly suggested that he resign. He could of killed someone, what message are they sending the young people of the community? This is deplorable!!!
#78 Jan 15, 2013
What did the board do to address the issue?
#79 Jan 15, 2013
Mr. Holmes did not show up to the meeting and the board did nothing. Mr. Holmes states "he still has lots to offer the board and is weighing his options". Not one board member is publicly suggesting or supporting the idea of his resignation.
#80 Jan 15, 2013
He didn't show up casue he didnt want to face the people that came to the meeting. The boards lets not talk about it is ridiculous. There is nothing he can offer the board or the district anymore.Who is going to listen to him. What will the next DUI bring him killing someone?

Issues need to be addressed not Rubber Stamped.
