I happen to be from Coudersport, PA and worked for Adelphia for 7 years. My husband, mother, best friend and myself all lost our jobs due to this mess. John and Tim Rigas deserve what they got. Their family still owns Zito Media (Cable Co) and Doris Rigas still owns Eleni Interiors, they are not hurting like most of their previous employees. I know many people whose lives were financially ruined due to loss of income and taking a huge loss on their homes when forced to relocate. I say put the guilty Rigases in jail and throw away the key!

Murders go free on technicalities... drug dealers go free numerous times before being incarcerated... child molesters go free unless they are repeated offenders... these two are not a threat to society and would not harm anyone. They did not play ball with the local and federal politicians and this is how they pay for it. What a sin.

Joanne,
what wrong with your brain. they are thiefs. they robbed and hurt many people. familys lost there homes and money when it all came out. why would you feel sorry for someone that has it all when they steal from the hard working familys and investers. get it right lady they are hoods that robbed there employes and the city of Buffalo and many other communities with no second thought. and you do not think they hurt anyone. WAKE UP

Also from Coudersport ~I have mixed emotions. John is old, John helped the community tremendously....but with the company's money! Ditto to those that said...they lost jobs, housing market went in the toilet, etc., etc. It is also sad for these people.
White collar crime happens every day in the US, these guys got caught & the government is using them to set an example!

I believe house arrest would have been the right thing to do and I also think that twenty years is way too much.

Sickens me that ANY posters would side with old man Rigas. So maybe he was somewhat generous with his money, but it's easy to be generous with riches you didn't have to earn. What if he had killed someone instead of stolen money? Would people still be saying he's too old to be sent to prison?

the sin was called embezzlement. And it is a crime that nets punishment as well.

He should definitely get house arrest instead of prison. He's elderly and ill. Why waste tax dollars in a situation like this?

He should commit suicide to repent his crimes and all the lives he hurt. Rigas is old anyway.

You People Are Idiots, It was His sons, and them alone that were stealing from the people, he wasn't doing it, why don't people get it through their heads once and for all. John Rigas is not responsible for the actions of his sons. I know john and the boys Personally and the boys are the ones that did it, not John
