If "trunk treasures" is what I think it is ...everyone gathers at one locale and gives candy out from the back of their truck/car ~ you bring your lawnchairs and enjoy the company of family and friends. The Chamber of Commerce would have info. I sure hope that they are planning this kind of gathering -It's fun and safe for all. No traffic concerns

I think the "trunk or treat" is a great idea, i wouldnt want anything happening to my kids nor any other child at that. Lets not forget that we do all this for our children, so if it is that we have to trick or treat from trunks then so be it.

What's funny about being worried for our kids. I'm glad they are finally thinking about the kids.

We already had drunks, drug addicts, people carrying guns and reckless drivers. Why blame it on the people that aren't from town. We have our own locals residents hurting/killing our own residents from LaSalle County. Who are the trio that hurt/killed our elderly couple? Who are the ones burgalizing our stores and homes? Who are the ones carrying guns? Our own coummunity memebers. So look into the facts before we blame somebody else.

You're right! Something has got to be done about our own local people. But also you have to think what's to come with all the strange faces in our town. And the power they assume they have.We do have to be careful.Keep our community safe.Everyone needs to look out for your neighbors and friends. No telling what can happen now.And it seems like MONEY is doing the talking.Should it be that way? I think not.Our own residents are getting thrown out on their b u t t s just cause they can't pay mo money.Think about it!!!!

I agree on the local landlords raising the rent to locals and evicted them if they can't pay 2500.00 a month or more. The landlords that are doing this will have their karma one day. Cause we aren't suppose take away food, housing, water from people. They need to start reading the main book.

Oh my Lord, the city has had a poulation explosion. I guess every other city in Texas already shut down Trick-or-Treat activities for October 31. Yeah, right. Get real, they are worried about excess traffic in the evening of Oct. 31, come on, traffic is light after about 6:30 in the evening. If the mayor, county judge and the local sherrif are so concerned, where are all these people when your kids are going to school in the mornings with traffic at its peak. Can you find one deputy on patrol (not on 624, 97, 468 or 35) IN TOWN. Idiots are running stop signs and stoplights all day in this town, crosswalks on Main street and in school zones are totally unprotected and now suddenly these people are supposedly worried about our kids on Halloween night? I would almost put money that come Tuesday after Halloween you would be hard-pressed to find any active law enforcement.

Jaja my point was that it took an increased population for this town to give two shits about our children. Their safety and protection should be everyday 24/7 days a week not because its HALLOWEEN does that mean the other 364 days our kids are on their own thats why I said NOW their worried Halloween is but one day and their so freightened for our children. How dare people blame the newcomers Cotulla had problems way before they got here.

We could banter all day abou what our city and county are or are no doing to proect all of us and the children of Cotulla but why? The "Trunk or Treat" will be held on Oct. 29th at Veteran's Park from 6-10 PM. I'm excited and will be there for a evening with our children and look forward to meeting new and old friends there!

What used to be known as the Halloween Carnival, put on by the school, was changed several years ago to The Harvest Festival. About three years ago, the Cotulla Main Street program started a Nightmare on Front Street event, held on October 31st. Both events were designed to raise money for school classes and organizations that participated, with the Nightmare event including organizations that supported youth, such as LULAC with its scholarships.

This year, Cotulla ISD and Cotulla Main Street are joining forces and holding the Trunk or Treat event in Veteran's Park (downtown city park) from 6-10 pm on Saturday October 29th. School classes and organizations will have their booths/spaces in the park (although the Senior Class will host the Haunting at Alexander Memorial Library just right across the street). Other organizations, such as LULAC, will be participating as well.

Local folks, including all the "new" locals, are invited to gather the treats they would normally be prepared to give out from home when kids come trick-or-treating, and park in the streets around the park (except Main Street, of course) and dispense the treats from their trunks, or pickup beds. Kids are encouraged to come in costume and do their trick-or-treating by going to the various trunks.

Prizes will be awarded by Cotulla Main Street for best costume, and for best decorated trunk.

Kids and their parents may still decide to trick-or-treat on Monday, October 31st, the traditional Halloween. But those concerned about safety are correct; there is so much heavy traffic in and around many of the most heavily-used trick-or-treat streets, and I'm not that sure it really clears out about 6:30 p.m. Not the 18-wheelers and other big vehicles, anyway. And the local folks who have in the past been seen to ignore the excited kids filling the streets and just speed right through them are most likely still with us.

So let's give it a try. It's not a new idea, and you can check out what other places have done by searching Trunk or Treat on the Internet, and maybe get some ideas for decorating your own trunk.

Go ask your piss ant sherriff why we have so many deputies, yet the do-rights are hardly ever seen. This sherriff has his hand out all the time for money at commissioners court, yet nobody writes tickets. Kind of funny that this town is so perfect, no speeding in city limits, everybody stops at the stoplight and stop signs, no drugs, no abuse........ BULLSHIT!!! Law enforcement get off your lazy asses and ENFORCE the law, not just at Halloween or Wild Hog cookoff, BUT, ALL THE TIME!!!!

I usually buy about $200.00 worth of candy as I live on one of the streets where lots of people go trick or treating. I enjoy seeing all the children dressed up in their costumes.I don't mind spending money on the candy and I look forward to Halloween each year, but what if I take my candy to the park and give it away on Saturday and then on Halloween night, kids still come to my house????? I can't afford to do both. Are most people still taking their children trick-or-treating on halloween night? I wish I knew......

Trick or treating and the Harvest Festival at the school are Cotulla traditions....even though our town is changing and growing, we should try to keep our traditions. The Harvest Festival (used to be called Halloween Carnival) is one of the greatest traditions in Cotulla and I am sad to hear it will no longer be happening.

Actually, the Harvest Festival (Halloween Carnival) is still happening. It's just happening in a different location but at the same time it would usually happen. I agree with you about enjoying the Harvest Festival -- I loved it as a kid growing up here, and I still enjoy it many years later. In fact, I didn't like that the name was changed from Halloween Carnival in the first place.

Don't know what to tell you about whether many kids will still trick-or-treat on October 31st. Wish I knew, too...but I'm planning on trying the trunk-or-treat thing on the 29th.

The Harvest Festival was sponsored by the SCHOOL on school grounds and the teachers and students ran the booths...no, the Harvest Festival is not happening anymore, the NIGHTMARE is happening...The tennis courts at the school provided an enclosed area where kids could walk around and know that they needed to stay inside the area.
So please don't say it's the same thing. The Harvest Festival is gone. I guess the Main Street Project is not here to preserve the things that are important to the residents of Cotulla.
And shouldn't it be called trick or trunk, not trunk or treat. Actually they both sound kinda dumb and sounds like an idea that was started by someone who did not want alot of kids from the other side of the tracks coming to their house.

There's going to be a lot of traffic and children running around during the Cook-off too. Can you imagine the truck traffic on highway 97? Any consideration on doing away with parade, cook-off,etc?
