No. Why should we, the tax payer, pay you to do nothing?

There are many positions, that require you to be "on-call", in many different industries. It is your choice, to work at such a place.
This is true but those people are rotated when they are on call.

Where I work our nursing staff/doctors do get paid for being on call. You need to read your policy and procedure book, and see if it mentions the on call and overtime.

tdcj overtime policy says volunteers must first be requested. if insufficient to meet unit needs, then tdcj employees may be subject to mandatory overtime. this stand by crap is against policy. all it will take is for one or several staff to contact your regional director and huntsville and this should quickly go away.

It is against policy and illigal to require employees to be on call without compensation. TDC does not pay straight overtime, they always look for a way to avoid paying money. Comp time, first 3 hours comp time, if you use accrued leave you lose any money earned, making it mandatory to work over time if you used any leave time, and the ones that have the least comp time built up so they don't have to pay. Staff shortages, no breaks, minimum breaks if you are lucky...the loss of benefits, no lobbyist and no support from the top administration, while the director received a pay raise the employees and staffing were cut in benefits and people. The denial of sick time due to staff shortages.

Just don't answer the phone. All policy states I'd that you have a working number. It never states that you need to answer. They only time you need to answer is when HR initiates a recall due to an extreme emergency. Other than that don't answer your phone when you see state of Texas on the caller id.
